Big 80s weekend

It's Big 80s Weekend on the Encore cable TV network. (It's always Big 80s Weekend here at my house. I even like watching old football games from the 80s on ESPN Classic. I'm just waiting for one channel to show nothing but 80s movies, TV shows and sports.)

Starting Friday, Sept. 1 (sorry for the late notice), you can catch flicks such as Cocktail, Easy Money, Porky's and more. Check EncoreTV's website for exact schedules.

Of course, I'll make it easier for you, by categorizing the critical movies for you. All times ET.

DON'T MISS THESE:
Cocktail Cocktail (9:45 Saturday)
Easy Money (11:40 Saturday)
Ghostbusters (12:35 pm Sunday)
Dragnet (1:05 p.m. Monday)
Better Off Dead (6:15 p.m. Monday)
Revenge of the Nerds (10 p.m. Monday)

GUILTY PLEASURES:
Mystic_pizza_vhs_hires Mystic Pizza (2:30 p.m. Sunday)
Road House (10:15 p.m. Sunday)
Krull (3:50 a.m. Monday)
Hard to Hold (7:35 a.m. Monday)
Blame It On Rio (11:35 p.m. Monday)

WATCH THIS AND I'LL BAN YOU FROM THE BLOG:
Fresh_horses Fresh Horses (5:05 a.m. Sunday)
Ghoulies II (6 a.m. Monday)
Batteries Not Included (9:20 a.m. Monday)
Maid to Order (3 p.m. Monday)

I haven't blogged in a while but geesh! No Maid To Order?!?!?! Are we really that elitist??? I mean we're Stuck In The 80's for crying out loud...How many things have we been banned from what some see as a minor flaw? You're right in that it is not the greatest movie (at all), but the memories man.

I leave you with these eternal words, "You take the good, you take the bad, you take it all and there you have The Facts Of Life." The good and the bad, my friend...the good and the bad...

Donna, are you really defending Maid to Order? Do I need to ask for a breath-a-lizer?

Hey, just kidding, we all have our own guilty pleasures. I haven't seen that particular movie more than once, but if that's your poison, I'll back down.

Thank You Steve... I've been waiting to see 'Hard To Hold' since your Rick Springfield podcast. Yes, I know it is a guilty pleasure, and really not that good of a movie... but I can't wait to record it!! :) LOL If I can say one positive thing about this movie.. it DOES have a great song!!!

P.S. Cocktail is on as we 'speak'. Can't beat the 80's (well, most of it!)

Ok, so Cocktail just ended and "What?? Do my eyes decieve me or is that Alan Hunter"... and wait, it's Mark Goodman. Geesh.. they are showing more of our original MTV vj's than MTV did on their 25th anniversary!!! Martha, Nina are you here too???

Blame it on RIO! Delicious

"Hard to Hold" should be called "Hard to Watch" ... but if you're a Rick Springfield fan, it can be fun. It's a good movie to make fun of while you watch it. In fact, maybe we'll do a "movie commentary" on it for a future podcast.

Michael J. Nelson, of 'MST3K' fame, has recorded a new audio commentary for 'Cocktail':

Even I, "alternative" as I may claim to be, cannot deny that I've watched Mystic Pizza a few times. It should however be said that I didn't see it until the late 90s, and the mainstream 80s-ness of the film seemed particularly attractive at that time. This is like a confessional... I'd rather die than admit to liking this chick flick.

The *real* 80s news is that there is a NEW version of Pretty In Pink out with COMMENTARY and BONUS MATERIALS. Isn't this what we've all been waiting for?

Dude, where is the Rick Springfield podcast??? Come on!!!

Didn't they do a Rick Springfield podcast long long ago? Or was that some other 80's themed audio program?

Favorite Obscure Rick Springfield song: "Bruce"

Holy crap! How did I miss the Rick Springfield podcast??? Thanks, Greg!
