Wino forever
Winona Ryder turns 35 today, and although she's probably more associated with her work during the Dark Ages (the 90s), let's not forget her nuggets of entertainment from the 80s. But where do you go after the genuis of Beetlejuice?
Well, not far it seems. Her career seems to have peaked in 1994 with Reality Bites.
Her biggest contribution to popular culture outside of acting and shoplifting? Gotta be the tattoo on Johnny Depp's arm, which changed from "Winona Forever" to "Wino Forever" after the couple broke up.
So where does that leave us for a top 5 list? Desperate.
Top 5 Winona Ryder flicks:
5. Mermaids (1990): "Oh god. I think I might be pregnant with the next Jewish Italian Messiah."
4. Girl, Interrupted (1999): "What kind of sex isn't casual?"
3. Heathers (1989): "Lick it up, baby. Lick. It. Up."
2. Reality Bites (1994): "I just don't understand why things just can't go back to normal at the
end of the half hour like on the Brady Bunch or something."
1. Beetlejuice (1988): "I myself am... strange and unusual."
Stay away from: Lucas, 1969, Great Balls of Fire, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Age of Innocence and many more I wouldn't admit to having watched.

You passed on one of my favorites from 1990, Edward Scissorhands. Great Tim Burton movie. Winona was nothing special in it, but she did look good as a blonde.

I had Edward Scissorhands on my original top 5 list, but just try to find a memorable quote from Winona in it. There isn't one. Great movie, but anyone could have played her part.

How Can You Say "Stay Away From Dracula" ? not a real "Great" movie, but one of the better Versions of Dracula...

She's an amazing actress

" Winona was nothing special in it"
pfff no other actress could have pulled a few scenes with so much grace, like the snow scene for instance. Winona was very expressive and remarkable in Edward

Re Dracula: I think Gary Oldman is fantastic in that movie. He is in every movie. But again, anyone could have carried off Winona's role.
And actually, I think the snow scene in Edward Scissorhands is -- dare I say classic. I love the movie. But I think that she's not the reason.

All that being said, feel free to continue to poke holes in the list. That's what blogs are for -- the exchange of opinions. I'm happy that there's a healthy disagreement on her work.

She's always good when she plays in present day movies, but whenever she has to put on a corset or speak in an english accent she fails miserably (Dracula, The Age of Innocence, Little Women).

I have to agree with Christina on this one! Dracula has her and Keanu in it, who always seems so out of place in a period piece (like every line should end with "dude"). Also, rumour has it that Gary Oldman and Winona *hated* each other during filming.

I could see Gary Oldman hating Winona. They're on opposite ends of the spectrum.

I still love Winona. My girlfriend at the time gave me a free pass at her if I could get close enough.
PS: I gave her a free pass at Christian Slater OR Patrick Dempsey. Always hoping she would never meet them both at the same time.

"Stay away from: Lucas, 1969, Great Balls of Fire, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Age of Innocence and many more."
I don't agree with you at all.
I think Winona is great in every
movie she is in, including those.
