Rare Police video unearthed

Exclusive video of The Police on youtube.com:

OK, so maybe it's not "The" Police.  The band's name is actually Dog Police. And this video was a favorite back in the day of MTV's Basement Tapes. The band released a self-titled album in 1983 -- the same year as The Police's last album, Synchronicity.

A coincidence? Yes, totally.

My review of The Police's actual reunion performance on the Grammys Sunday night: Ehh, okay, I suppose. At least they were well-rested. Or as former Times TV critic and Stuck in the 80s contributor Chase Squires said via e-mail: "Ack, that sucked."

Dr John

Thought it was a great return performance by a great band....far and above any of the garbage that made up the rest of the show.

Spears

Oh, let me be clear. I turned off the Grammy's as soon as their performance was over.

Actually, the song was fine except that meandering middle part. I'm sure it's not easy to come back 25 years later, pick just one song and play it on TV and in front of a bunch of music industry fakes who'll never have half the talent as the Police.

Greg Williams

Just watched it on Youtube. It wasn't stellar, but for not having played together in 20 years, it was very good.

Bassnote

I thought they sounded good. Their performance was better that most of the crap that was on the Grammys.

Elliot

I cannot believe you brag about going to see a lame Journey show that doesn't even have the original singer and then you want to say the Police suck? They had a great web performance yesterday at thepolicetour.com

warhawk85

That was totally awful, but I do remember basement tapes on mtv. It was also a time tht mtv didnt cater to the record companies and you could actually discover a new band.

If I rember correctly dog police played in st pete.
