'Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?'
Is there anyone out there who truly couldn't appreciate the 1986 flick Sid & Nancy? It's a Gary Oldman masterpiece (aren't they all?). And if you didn't idolize Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols before seeing it, you surely did afterward. (Though perhaps for all the wrong reasons.)
Everything I Need To Know In Life, I Learned from Sid & Nancy:
- "Never trust a junkie."
- "Barbie doesn't have bruises."
- "Sidney's more than a mere bass player. He's a fabulous disaster. He's a symbol, a metaphor, he embodies the dementia of a nihilistic generation."
- "You're in the studio, these places cost like fifty grand a minute."
- "Sex is boring ... American hippie love s--t."

Thanks for this. I'm not that a big a fan of the movie but Gary Oldman is great.
I was surprised that neither of you picked Leon as a favorite G.O. film performances.
Prick Up Your Ears is also very worthy of respect.

Hi Steve - great podcast, one of the best yet.
Sid & Nancy was a great movie. I wore out my VHS copy back in the 90s.

"Diuretics. The science of matter over mind. Found it in a Maserati in Beverly Hills, know what I mean?"
Sid and Nancy is difficult to watch, very true. That's what makes it great.
Love Repo Man as well--glad you guys are doing a show/post on it!

I still cannot sit through this movie. I couldn't when it came out, and I can't now. I can certainly appreciate the performnances, but drugs and drug culture really put me off. Plus all the awkward moments and yelling and screaming...I have enough of that in real life! :) Ok, just kidding.... Seriously though, very hard to sit through this. Loved Repo Man though...

A great classic 80's flick--I don't care what anyone says, this film is practically a documentary about that time and their lives.
I read Nancy Spungen's mother's book years ago, too, that girl never had a chance.
