If the Ferris Bueller sequel had a soundtrack...
Die-hard Ferris Bueller fans might remember that the 1986 movie didn't have a soundtrack for sale to the public. (Though director/writer John Hughes, who chose all the music, said he had 100,000 copies printed to send to friends and fans who wrote him.)
For "Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off," sequel screenwriter Rick Rapier (read Q&A) has compiled a list of the songs he has worked into his script. (Read a scene) So if the sequel were to be made and Rick got to call the shots on music, here's what the soundtrack would feature.
THE FERRIS BUELLER SEQUEL SOUNDTRACK:
- "A Man Without Love" by Engelbert Humperdinck
- "Exception of Love" by The Truth
- "Avalon" by Roxy Music
- "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins
- "Breathe Your Name" by Sixpence None the Richer
- "Tenderness" by General Public
- "Anywhere With You" by Rubber Rodeo
- "What the World Needs Now Is Love" by Burt Bacharach
- "Return to Innocence" by Enigma
- "Oh, Yeah" by Yello
"Some songs are not from the 80s but rather might be songs recorded since Ferris might like," Rapier said. "And, of course, the Humperdinck is meant to be a lyrics-appropriate replacement for Wayne Newton, whose only other pop hit besides 'Danke Schoen' was 'Daddy Dontcha Walk So Fast' -- doesn't exactly work, does it?"

I'd love to see this sequel cause there isn't anything out there now that I'd see that I haven't already! This could really be entertaining - good luck....

Oh my goodness, I can't wait for them to make this movie. All the tunes sound terrific. But now I am seriously wondering: which one will be Ferris' big show stopper, ala Twist & Shout from the original movie? There MUST be another perfect music moment like that in the sequel!

If memory serves, I believe it's General Public's "Tenderness." And it's a great scene even more fun than the parade scene.

Wow, thanks, Steve... Hi praise indeed.

This is just so awesome! I had the ALBUM of General Public with Tenderness on it. LOVE IT still. I think it suits the Ferris sequel perfectly!

Wow...I think I would like to enter "American Dream" by Switchfoot. A recent addition but something i think Ferris migh like very much. When is someone going to wise up and make this movie? I mean...if someone got funding for "Underdog" there's got to be some money on the table for a Ferris sequel. Anyone who has seen the latest UK Olympic logo can tell that the 80's influence is on another rise.

BIG props for Avalon. One of the most beautiful pieces of music to come out of the 80's.

I'd like to suggest 'Walk This Way' - both versions! Yeah, the original Aerosmith version was released in '75 but the second Run DMC/Aerosmith version was released in '87. Seems like the perfect song for Ferris' second day off.

Big Tex, I have to agree with you. I still listen to the Avalon album. I would like say that I believe I am the one who introduced my big brother to Roxy Music.

Miss Sunshine, I love that song too, but prefer the original INXS version! ;-)

lol...yes well...thats actually what I meant my Dear Rick! I should really stop reading blogs while drinking...lol! When did that song come out anyhow...? I do love it and think it should be a credits song. After all we all love Ferris and don't want him to change too much about himself. Save Ferris!

Another love note for Avalon! Great album and great band. Roxy Music has been touring a bit in the last few years and are working on a new CD, their first since...Avalon in 1982! expectations are high in this corner!

Nice work on the possible soundtrack. I had to look up a few songs on the internet but once I heard them they all fit so well with the script.

I would like this but I would be very careful that this movie doesnt get bamboozled by some moron. Sequels are destroyed by these impatient people. Take the time to make something that was great just as good. Not just slap a familiar name on a movie and it suck! But sometimes, something great is meant to be left alone.
