Tough Guy or Music Man? We'll find out

Kevincronin So you say you'd like to have a chat with REO Speedwagon's Kevin Cronin. You can. Sorta.

We're planning on talking to REO's frontman in the next week for a future podcast episode. And we're taking suggestions from Stuck in the 80s fans on what they'd like to hear Kevin talk about.

REO's really on a hot streak again. Their new album "Find Your Own Way Home" is getting good reviews. Their single "I Needed to Fall" hit the charts again. And the band is touring the country, including a stop here in Tampa Bay at Clearwater's Ruth Eckerd Hall on Oct. 23 (with .38 Special).

Kevin first joined REO back in 1972 and immediately began contributing songs, including "Music Man." By the late 70s and early 80s, he was writing most of the band's biggest hits. So we're eager to find out more about the man himself.

You know I'll be asking a lot about "Hi Infidelity," their 1980 album that I consider to be the source of all that's pure and good in this world. And you know Times pop music critic Sean Daly will ask other rather bizarre questions that he won't share with me until 30 seconds before Kevin calls the studio.

So that means there's plenty of time for your questions. Leave us a comment here with some suggested questions and we'll ask Kevin. If you want, we'll even say who the question is from.

Stuff you probably DO NOT want to ask includes:

  • How come everyone boos when Steve sings "Keep On Lovin' You" during Karaoke Night?
  • Is he still a member the "He-Man Woman Haters Club" with Alfafa and Spanky?
  • Do they get royalties every time the Tampa Bay Storm arena football team scores and plays "Ridin' the Storm Out?"
  • What's the story with this creepy video?

I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okaaaayyyy!

Kevin Cronin is way too old to be the spawn of Carol Channing. He's older than her!

Kevin Cronin looks like the illegitimate love child of Carol Channing and Liberace.

Spears

I have that version on my iPod. It was featured in the movie Drive Me Crazy, featuring "Vinnie Chase."

David P

Be sure to ask him what he thought of the Donnas' cover of "Keep on Loving You," from a few years back.
