Most depressing songs of the 80s (#21-30)

Theducksterintherain

Poor Duckie. He saw yesterday's list of Most Depressing Songs of the 80s, and was driven to a crying fit out in the rain because nothing from "Pretty in Pink" had made the list.

Cheer up, Duck man. Today's your big day.

(Click here to see Nos. 31-40 and 41-50)

TOP 50 DEPRESSING SONGS OF THE 80s: Nos. 21-30

30. How Soon Is Now? (The Smiths): "I am the son and heir of nothing in particular."

29. Who Wants To Live Forever? (Queen): "This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us."

28. Everytime You Go Away
(Paul Young):  "I can feel your body move. It doesn't mean that much to me."

27. Hold On to the Nights (Richard Marx): "I wish that I could give you something more."

26. Luka (Suzanne Vega): "They only hit until you cry and after that you don't ask why."

25. Think Of Laura (Christopher Cross): "I think you're here, taking our tears away."

24. Purple Rain (Prince): "It's such a shame our friendship had to end."

23. The Way It Is (Bruce Hornsby): "As he catches the poor old lady's eyes, just for fun he says 'Get a job.' "

Sneak peak at the next 10: Just pour me a drink, and I'll tell you some lies.

Comments

The embarrasing thing to me, is that I have all of these songs. In fact, I own just about every song on the list so far.

The title of the Queen song is "Who Wants To Live Forever?".

Yikes! I do too! But I sooo love them anyway.

Great choices so far, here are some depressing ones that I still love:
"To Live and Die in L.A." by Wang Chung--their best tune as far as I'm concerned.
"Hey Little Girl" by Icehouse--a classic.
"Human" by The Human League--a huge hit and great breakup song.
"Unloveable" by The Smiths--you could probably make up the entire list of 50 with just Smiths songs, but "Unloveable" was always the most depressing tune of theirs to me.
"Suedehead" by Morissey. Really sad, longing song.

this list of songs gets better (or should I say more depressing?) we we count down.
Steve much better picture than yesterday! Love the Duckie!
Can't wait to see tomorrow's list!

I'm guessing I'll find Bonnie Tyler, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogleberg and George Michael in the Top 10, but I could be wrong. For the really obscure suggestion, consider Fred Knobloch's "Why Not Me?" from 1980. Depressing and wretched all wrapped up in one Top 20 hit.

My 80's wingman Chuck used to have a classic Paul Young riff for when a woman would shoot him down in a bar or club. He'd grab his groin and warble "Every time you go away, please take this piece of meat with you..."
More often than not it would allow me to use one of my best lines: "I see you've thrown your drink, let me buy you another."

Anything with Henley and Hornsby has to be a good playlist....nice work.

Their not depressing songs unless you fear aging. Their nostalgic.. and at times..VERY ROMANTIC. Depressing are the songs I hear today!!

Classic story there, CMD Jeff. I look forward to recreating some of those in person when we get down there to GTMO. (But Sean will be the one with the drink in the face.)

Eternal Flame, Bangles, nuff said.

LOL--that's the truth, Dr_Dug!
