Drownin' in beer is like heaven, eh?
At one point in my life, I thought "Strange Brew" was the funniest movie I'd ever seen. Is it still that funny today? (Yeah, so long as you're enjoying a "two-four" while viewing it.)
Check out our latest podcast -- a tribute to the 1983 movie about the fictional Bob and Doug MacKenzie -- and let us know. Click here to download it. Or click here to subscribe to all our show for free on iTunes.
Some of this week's highlights:
- The top 10 quotes from "Strange Brew."
- Sean Daly argues this movie has the world's greatest flatulence scene.
- I share the aftermath story of an ill-fated experiment with beer bongs in college.
- Sean tells the story of the "Drunk Dwarf."
- And for some reason, the line "I had a mustache in college" is uncontrollably funny.
And for the record, I had a mustache in high school too, but Daly didn't think that was as funny. I've actually had one since about my junior year. I shaved it after my freshman year in college, when for some reason they suddenly became unpopular again. And as promised here's a real photo of the 'stache.

This show was great and a throwback to your heyday of Stuck in the 80's!
Tales of debauchery, drinking and a heap of new Sean Daly-isms.
More, more!!

While "Strange Brew" does have a number of references to "Hamlet", it is more directly derivative of Tom Stoppard's Hamlet-related play "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead", with the two main characters blithely ignorant of the epic tragedy unfolding around them. Of course, Stoppard's characters don't see the main story because they are exchanging witty banter on the nature of free will; Bob & Doug are just looking for free beer!

Great podcast, guys, and it's true, Steve's "I had a mustache in college" line cracked me up over and over again.

Steve and Sean,
Just finished the podcast and loved it. Too bad I was too late in listening to get the name that 80's tune. Oh well maybe next time.
However, I think you could have started the whole Munich story by empathizing with Bob McKenzie, because when Bob was stuck in the beer tank with Pam, he has to go really bad. As you watch his face when he finally decides to "go" in the beer and her line of "Hey is it getting warm in here?" I still laugh when Bob says "No."
But my favorite part of the movie is when Bob and Doug start playing with the organ at the hockey rink. When they do the theme song and the mental patients all start fighting.
Man, that is such a great movie. I'm going to have to find it now. Thanks for the show guys.

Bob and Doug McKenzie are awesome! My best friend in the 6th grade had a record and we would sit there almost peeing our pants laughing so hard listening to Great White North over and over again. I am a girl that loves Strange Brew and Bob and Doug. Highly entertaining!

That idea's so good, I want to freeze it and skate on it in the winter. And then melt it and drink it in the spring!

Steve,
Here's an idea: How would you feel about a combined sequel that incorporated the characters from "Strange Brew" and "Beerfest"? It could be the greatest combo since the people at Reeses put chocolate and peanut butter together.

Weldon and Ian, I awoke this morning with the porny, mustached image of Steve Spears in my brain. I felt this odd twinge of fear creep up my spine. I thought it was a nightmare at first, but I was awake!
Loved the podcast, Boo Boo! Sean, don't feel slighted. You're loved, too. Steve is just easier to make fun of :)

Did you say you kept the mushtaka just to look like your fake ID? I would have stayed sober if that was the case. And yes Weldon, that was the first thought in my mind too. And on the "surly dwarf" Didn't know Daly went to college with Ben Folds!!

"This movie was shot in 3B - three beers - and it looks good, eh?"
Beauty! My best friend and I are huge Bob and Doug fans eh? We loved the movie and were really stoked when they were cast as Canadian moose in"Brother Bear" since it had been a while since the Hosers had been together. So that's my topic for today, so G'day eh?

Oh my God Spears!!! Your hair is so bitchin' like totally. Are you sure you are not an east coast version of Tommy from Valley Girl?
All you need is the polo shirt with the collar flared up and the sunglasses hanging off the front!

::snort:: feathered

That's mostly shadow. My hair was parted on the side and feathered, but not poofy.
Posted by: Spears | October 11, 2007 at 05:32 PM
Is that a shadow making your hair look poofy on the sides or was it THAT puffed up/out? Did you have a George Michael cut sans highlights?

Also a big fan of the "shart" from "Along Came Polly."

The flatulence scene in Strange Brew is good, but the one in Blazing Saddles is better....

I won tickets to see this movie on the radio ... back when I thought "winning" anything on the radio was a big deal. Took the train to Boston, then went to the show with my friend Nicholas Butterworth. (That's his name) ... Indeed, it was a hoot. best line: "If I didn't have puke breath, I'd kiss you."
