Idol chat tonight: One more time

Americanidollogo Hey gang, don't forget the American Idol chat that I'm guest-hosting again tonight on Sean Daly's Pop Life blog. The fun -- aww, who am I kidding? -- the drudgery begins at 8 p.m. Come keep me company.

Tonight's auditions are in Miami, which normally you'd think would be exciting to a lifelong Floridian like myself. However, I've long given up on Miami being part of Florida. It's more like the one Orlando theme park nobody wants to go to anymore. Yeah, just like Disney's Animal Kingdom!

Wish i could help you O mighty Steve, but I will be out on the ice, calling the shots and pushing a broom as i curl my team to victory. It's not that I hate Idol...Its that I hate Idol. I feel for you, dude. Truly.

Ah, somebody else feels my pain about the Animal Kingdom.

Hey General! Go bonspiels go! Man, I used to love being lead in university......

Hey Al,

I am actually Skip this year which is a lot of fun...but a lot more stress. I am in a bonspeil this weekend and I am looking forward to it. More fun than idol that's for sure!

General,

I know how you feel, I was terrible as skip.

Fun, yet silly story for you:

When I curled in university (as lead) let's face it: I wasn't that good. We had a round-robin, then playoffs.

So, we lost the semi-final match, and end up playing for bronze. I score two points with my lead rocks, which is ridiculously good for me.....I feel like the bloody Canadian Olympic team.

Fast-forward to the end: The opposing skip just has to put his rock straight to the house (sorry if the terminology is a tad off) to knock out one of our rocks to win. He has both shots left.

My team huddles, prays, curses quietly, etc.

Skip screws up twice! WE TIE FOR BRONZE! I swear, we celebrated like we just won the Stanley Cup. Fun, fun, fun times. Only in Canada can you take curling as an university course!

By the way, how can Steph Hayes not fall for a bronze medalist?

(No medals were actually handed out.....)

But in the words of Peter Griffin, "Come on! Coooome onnnnn!"

I just started curling 7 years ago at the ripe old age of 33. It was weird. I thought curling was this strange sport played in Canada that we used to watch on lazy Saturday afternoons during my college days in Buffalo. When I moved back to Albany in 2001 I discovered that most of my old friends had left town, so I was searching for something to do and wound up trying it on a whim. I was hooked from the time I threw my first rock!
