Live chat: Ready for Idol chatter?

Idol_2 With Times pop music critic Sean Daly on family leave, I'm the point man for this week's American Idol blogging duties.

So join me at 8 p.m. tonight on his Pop Life blog for all the sugary goodness. We'll chat live. No alcohol required. Though clearly it would help.

What can I hope for in tonight's show -- aside from possibly my cable provider blacking out the show locally?

STEVE'S TOP 5 LIST OF COOL THINGS THAT COULD HAPPEN WHILE HE'S HANDLING AMERICAN IDOL DUTIES:

5. All contestants forced to choose between singing a John Waite or Asia song.

4. Simon shaves his chest hair in order to look better in his white undershirts.

3. Randy draws the short straw and shows up drunk this week.

2. Paula instead forced to call everyone "Dog."

1. How about Carrie Fisher showing up in the slave girl bikini this time?

Steve... you absolutley don't want any American Idol butchering any John Waite or Asia song. I cringe when I hear the beginnings of any Journey song! ACK!!

Groovy, Mr. Spears.

Here's hoping for, at the very least, an entertaining evening. Although I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for some "so bad, it's good" audition fodder.

Have you seen Carrie Fisher lately? I don't want her showing up in that outfit. What makes me gag more than someone butchering a Journey song, is Randy going off about he was a 'member' of Journey. Yes, I know that he played on the 'Raised On Radio' album, and played bass on that tour, but SHUT UP! We don't need to hear it every time someone decides to butcher 'Faithfully'.

Amen Bassnote, Amen!!

I thought you would approve of that Carla.

I remember a few years ago, when the one contestant (who was kicked off), sang Open Arms.... thought I was going to hurl!

Agreed about the Carrie Fisher line Bassnote. I definitely don't want to see her in the slave girl outfit now. It's funny but Star Wars was on one of the HBOs tonight. Carrie was so hot when she was younger.

Surprised more people don't sing Journey songs on this show. A lot of their songs are showy and you can showcase your voice. I am still upset that they canned Jeff Scott Soto. Idiots.

How about Paula's hiccup/belch last night?!? They kept playing it on the radio this AM and I was in hysterics. Not a good thing to be listening to when you're trying to put on mascara!

Don't forget: I'm chatting live during Idol again tonight on the Pop Life blog.

Miami will be bantha fodder.

Unfortunately (maybe fortunately for you all), I won't be home during Idol tonight. Hope you all have a great chat anyway.
