'Tell them that it's Human Nature'
Tomorrow is the release of "Thriller 25" -- the silver anniversary edition of Michael Jackson's 1982 "Thriller" album. And if you weren't already planning to listen to M.J. non-stop this week, here's another reason:

Relive the music, movies and culture of the greatest decade ever with Times online editor Steve Spears. A teen during the decade, Steve is obsessed with everything from Duran Duran to Journey, John Hughes to John Cusack, and parachute pants to Reaganomics.
E-mail Steve Spears:
THIS WEEK'S SHOW: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers rock Tampa Bay. To hear the latest "Stuck in the 80s" episode now,

My meager contribution -- live footage of my fave song from Thriller:

Granted, it's not the greatest video footage in the world -- but I went with it because of this little exchange found in the comments section. I'm still laughing:
"Mj is dope!!
y he wear what appears to be a half shredded bin bag on the crane??! lol!! never got that!"
"lol its the 80's thats why, a lotta things dont make sense to us now. XDD"
And thus a whole decade's cultural impact is summarized.

If you had said thi back in '83/'84 you might have had some backing. but his star has long since lost its lustre. For someone to be crowned greatest entertainer of all time there has to be long term longevity, so you wind up getting into Sinatra territory for that. I think I could even make an argument for David Bowie, though he has been laying low for a few years now after his heart attack.

Jackson, not so much. I am not sure that singing with children and grabbing your crotch qualifies as entertaining. But that's just me.
