Still they ride: Journey has a new album
The retooled and reformed version of Journey is planning its next departure to a Wal-Mart near you. The band announced this week that it will release "Revelation," a three-disc CD and DVD, on June 3.
The first CD will have 11 re-recorded classics, featuring new vocalist Arnel Pineda. The second CD has 11 new tunes, also with Arnel, guitarist Neal Schon, keyboardist Jonathan Cain, bassist Ross Valory and drummer Deen Castronovo. The last disc is a live, in-concert DVD.
The new release will be sold exclusively at Wal-Mart in North America.
Journey plans to tour the United States beginning in July to support Revelation. Expect the exact dates and locations to be announced in the next couple weeks.
The band also redesigned its official website. Click here to check it out.

This blog post will send Carla into a fit. You KNOW how she's dedicated to Steve Perry.
Carla, my friend, it'll be okay. Just breathe deeply and reach for your iPod.

I really think they should bring back Steve Augeri instead of Steve Perry.

I don't like this new trend of older bands selling their albums exclusively at Wal-Mart.

I agree, Bassnote. The Eagles had a similar set up with Wal-Mart and their most recent album. I'd be curious to know what the sales figures are for albums with such limited release parameters.

I used to think that "Exclusively at Wal-Mart" was the next to last stop on the bus to "Appearing tonight in the Lamplighter Lounge at the Airport Ramada", but it's shaping up to be a viable business decision.
Madonna's in the Hall of Fame and Journey's at Wal-Mart. Go figure.

The 'exclusive to Wal-Mart' thing is good for Kankakeeland. We just had TWO brand-spankme-new stores open last weekend.
Yeah, I know you're all jealous. One on the north end of town, one on the south side. It almost makes me want to break out with a Moby tune.

Ahhh, Riss... Thanks for looking out for me. Actually, It just doesn't bother me that much anymore. Good luck to them... but I don't think they'll ever recapture the magic!
There is a huge dose of Perry in my IV (ipod), just put it on automatic drip mode, and I'll be JUST fine!

Considering the setting for the Separate Ways video, perhaps they should sell the new CDs at Home Depot.
And any chance of a re-release of that rockin Journey video game that was all the rage from around June to August 1981?

"11 re-recorded classics featuring new vocalist" does seem to be the band's way of extending a middle finger to Steve Perry and his legacy.
If the disc of new tunes becomes available as a single stand-alone CD, I might be interested in that. I'm not interested in supporting the rest because it's a blatant cash grab -- and an aforementioned insult to Perry.
