Put up your dukes: Benatar's on tour

Pat_benatar Time to take money out of our retirement accounts: We have yet another can't-miss '80s legend making a summer tour.

Pat Benatar has announced a slew of new summer dates, including a stop here in Tampa Bay at Clearwater's Ruth Eckerd Hall on July 7. Click here to see if she's coming near you. Tickets for the Ruth Eckerd Hall show go on sale April 11 and range in price from $34.75 to $70.

In one media interview, Benatar says fans should expect a show covering the hits -- with a few surprises. "The classic hits are in there, and we have an acoustic set, which is really lovely -- four or five songs we've taken and play them acoustically -- everyone seems to really enjoy that. And then, some new things that we have coming out."

New things? Maybe a new album? We'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, you can re-listen to our Pat Benatar podcast on Stuck in the 80s -- and you can bet we'll be redoing that show if we can score an interview before her show here!

Another mis-heard lyric, I suspect, eh Steve?

I don't know about you, but all these tours are terrifying to me. Why? OUR MUSIC IS NOW THE "OLDIES BUT GOODIES"!

While one part of me is happy to see it, the other part says, "You got one foot in the grave, ol' chum."

Does anybody else's butt pucker when they see how paunchy Neil Schon has gotten, or how Simon LeBon now looks like someone's 60-yr old lesbian aunt? That means, by deduction, that I look like hell, but worse: middle-aged.

Hold it! Hold it!

I swear to God, the headline read "Puke up your dukes"! Now that Steve's added the links to download it reads "Put up your dukes."

Steve, am I going Alzheimer's as well as middle-aged?

I think what's happening is that, thanks to iTunes and the like, younger audiences are discovering the music of our youth. With all the sampling and covers being tossed out (due to lack of creativity and imagination?) there's a renewed appreciation for music that we deem nostalgic.

George Michael on Eli Stone anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

and Rick, he's trying to make us think we're not only middle aged, but senile.

One of my favorite Pat Benatar tunes is "Invicible." The song could also go on the 'Good Song, Bad Movie' list.

What?? "Heartbreaker", "Fire And Ice", & "Promises in the Dark" not on the top 5 list??

Personally some of my favorite PB songs weren't considered hits. "In The Heat Of The Night" and "No You Don't", are just two that come to mind.

She makes her Nashville stop at the Wildhorse Saloon in July... Hmmmm finally a summer show I really want to see. (Don't get me wrong... would love to see Cheap Trick/Heart and yeah, I suppose Journey... but I think the closest they are coming to Nashville is Atlanta).

Any chance Steve that you'll try to get an interview with the "Angry Pixie" (Gina V's words, not mine), when she comes to Tampa?

Hmmm. That plasma selling thing might just have to come to fruition... I really like Benatar and have always been mesmerized by her voice -- I think it's that classical training I'm always listening for.

Saw her a couple of summers ago at Ravinia outside Chicago. Great show but she didn't play "We Belong" I think she has something against that song. I agree with your liste except for "Hell is for Children", I would replace that with "Heartbreaker" that is one of her most rocking songs. I hate that song, and just isn't a very upbeat topic anyways.

"Hell Is for Children" is perhaps the strangest anti-child abuse song ever. The rest of the lyrics make pretty much sense and then all of a sudden -- BOOM -- "HELL IS FOR CHILDREN!!!"

It is? Pat, I thought surely you would say, "HELL AIN'T
FOR CHILDREN!!!"

But, you know... that's just me.

Yep, she's coming to my County fair :)
I'll have to check that show out...
