He'll speak of the pompatus of love
The Steve Miller Band is the latest retro-act to announce a new album and tour for the summer.
Miller's 32-city tour starts tour begins in Florida in late May, including a stop on May 25 at Tampa's Ford Amphitheatre. It's part of a 32-city tour to support their 2008 album "The Truth About the Lies." (Click here for full list of dates.)
Joe Cocker will be the opening act, according to the band's official website.
Steve Miller -- some people call him Maurice -- had a few shining moments in the '80s, including his Abracadabra album from 1982, which had hit title song. In all, he had four studio albums and one live album in the 80s. But I think it's safe to say the '80s nation will embrace them as a guilty pleasure.

THIS WEEK'S SHOW: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers rock Tampa Bay. To hear the latest "Stuck in the 80s" episode now,

Word around the campfire is, when he heats up, he can't cool down. Just chiming in because I didn't see it mentioned.

I think Steve Miller was more of a 70's act than an 80's one. Abracadabra was the only hit he had in the 80's. I still like a lot of his 70's stuff though.
Post something about last nights They Might Be Giants show! We all want to know how it was.

Steve,
Do you think they'll tour from Phoenix, Arizona, all the way to Tacoma, Philadelphia, Atlanta, LA?

Ya know, on the podcast, everytime you call my name. I heat up like a burnin' flame.

I agree with Bassnote about SM being a 70's act, but a great one. Anyone else out there heard his 1988 "Born 2B Blue" release? Sadly, that and his greatest hits are the only Miller CDs in my collection.

The thought of this show makes me hot, it makes me sigh
It makes me laugh, it makes me cry
It keeps me burnin for your love
With the touch of a velvet glove...

Sadly I feel he's just coming back to take the money and run. Living in the U.S.A., with the cost of fuel, it's expensive owning a big ol jet airliner.

This tour has the potential to be a massive success if he doesn't commit a crime and get arrested. In other words, he might get rich or he might get busted.

Nicely played, everyone.

Bassnote -- I missed the TMBG show last night. I wasn't feeling up to it, and it was raining here. (Alas it was an outdoor show.)

Hey, I still dig Steve Miller. Not an '80s thing really, but I'm always game to Fly Like An Eagle. Spears, that photo of him screams "RUG !!"... that can't be the real deal.
