Madonna inducted into sex toy hall of fame

MadonnaWell, that's what the photo looks like. And it'd be a whole lot more believable than Madonna's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Unfortunately, this is a photo from Monday night's induction into the rock hall of fame.

Madonna declined to perform at the ceremony, unlike fellow 80s inductee John Mellencamp.

It's been said before and today it needs to be repeated: Madonna isn't a rock artist. There's not a lick of rock in her music. She didn't influence rock. The only thing she could do at this point to infuriate me anymore is to perform "Like a Virgin" outside my house while burning a stack of Asia albums.

Why so tense, Steve? Did Madonna do something nasty to your cornflakes? Lighten up! She DID influence music and style in the 80's, and whether or not she is/was a "rock" artist is inconsequential--she made a tremendous impact whether people like it or not. You didn't even mention the coolest aspect of her induction--having Iggy and The Stooges perform two of her songs. Now that is cool, and very classy!

I completely agree with you Steve. They need to change the name of the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame to the Stuff Vaguely Know As Music Hall Of Fame. the only thing that Madonna has influenced is the crap that passes as pop music today, and that is nothing for her to be proud of. And, I am officially ashamed of Iggy Pop.

Madonna's real talent has always been shameless self-promotion. Although, I don't believe that there is a "Hall Of Fame" for that particular skill.

I fear the Hall of Fame has become a victim of the very elements it purports to memorialize.

It was always a dicey propostion to create a cultural center built on a pop culture movement. Early on it was easy for Hall to concentrate on the proper documentation and presentation of rock and roll artifacts and history. Yet over time, as it has gained more and more prominence on the pop culture landscape, the pressure to be 'popular' has clearly become as (or more) important than the pressure to be 'cultural'. Which is why Madonna gets the nod in her first year of eligibility.

But the biggest travesty is the inclusion of Iggy Pop in her induction. That her ceremony featured an iconic and transformational artist who has been egregiously excluded from the Hall of Fame; it's just beyond the pale. Display the geniune article in praise of popular knock-off; the whole thing's upside-down.

The only parallel I can draw would be giving Ernest Borgnine a spot in the Navy Hall of Fame, and then have Chester Nimitz perform selected readings from McHale's Navy at the ceremony.

If the Hall continues to induct people to increase the ticket sales, gift shop volume and induction show ratings, it's just going to get worse.

They might as well go ahead and pencil in Ryan Seacrest now.

the hall has become somewhat of a joke. although i do like some of madonna's music, she isn't in the same class as mellencamp. there are tons of influential bands not in the hall, and that's a shameful thing. KISS, reo speedwagon, journey, styx, the monkees, def leppard, rush, heart, cheap trick, hall and oates, foreigner, duran duran, bad company, etc, etc, should all be in there. i'm sure i'm missing many other artists, but that's just the ones i think of off the top of my head. i guess as long as jan wenner is running the hall, it'll continue to be all about who he likes or prefers. what a joke

I like Madonna, good music to dance to but I so do not think that she belongs in the hall of fame... especially when you look at all of the artists that have not been inducted yet.
Like someone else said she's all about self-promotion... her speech (I was dying through it all) and having Iggy Pop peform for her? What was that all about? Why didn't she perform herself? Because it wasn't all about her perhaps?
On another note: I LOVED seeing Joan Jett performing for The Dave Clark Five. She looks awesome!

Hey Jeff, Madonna chose Iggy and The Stooges to perform for her because they have been overlooked. It was her choice and obviously they were happy to do it, not to mention they both hail from the same state.

I know WHY Iggy was there, but that doesn't make it any less of an affront.

Bottom line: The Hall shouldn't have inducted Madonna (strike one). Madonna shouldn't have asked the Stooges to perform her music (strike two). And Iggy should have never agreed to do it (strike three).

I was hoping that when Stooges hit the stage they would jam an extended middle finger into the collective eyes of the HoF powers-that-be and launch into a set of their own tragically overlooked music.

Now THAT would be Rock and Roll!

Jeff said: "I was hoping that when Stooges hit the stage they would jam an extended middle finger into the collective eyes of the HoF powers-that-be and launch into a set of their own tragically overlooked music. Now THAT would be Rock and Roll!"

No, actually, that would be Punk Rock... ;-)

So I take it you agree with Johnny Rotten and The Sex Pistols' take on the whole "Hall of Fame" issue? They refused to show up at the ceremony and sent a scathing letter about how it was all bullocks, if I remember correctly.

I have to say I was really shocked when they inducted Madonna into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I really do like Madonna, but there are so many deserving bands that aren't in the HOF. I am still confused why they waited so long to put Black Sabbath into HOF. For me, Black Sabbath should go in on the first ballot. I really do believe Madonna has talent, and I would actually put her in HOF but she would not be a first ballot pick for me.

I love the mess out of Iggy and the Stooges but what they did to 'Ray of Light" was heinous.

There's plenty of artist in the HOF that can't be labeled rock. Why no venom for them? Did you flip when they inducted Miles Davis a couple fo years back? Probably not.
