Another mega-80s tour in the works
How's this for a great '80s concert lineup: The Human League, Belinda Carlisle, ABC, Dead Or Alive, A Flock of Seagulls and Naked Eyes!
The so-called "Regeneration Tour" begins Aug. 1 in Phoenix and wraps up Aug. 28 in Atlanta, according to Billboard.com. Tickets range from $20 and $75. For that price, this is a no-brainer decision. (Even if the members of The Human League today look more like judges on a Bravo Network reality show.)
The exact lineup of bands at each tour stop could vary, depending on artist availability.
Red Entertainment Agency's Rick Shoor, who organized the tour, got the idea from shopping at music stores. "I was hearing all these '80s hits played in the stores I shopped in every week, so I thought putting a great hits package together could be a cool thing for the summer touring season," he tells Billboard.
Click here to see all the tour stops from Livedaily.com. (There aren't any scheduled for Florida; the Atlanta finale is the closest show.)

Add some Heaven 17 and I'm in!
No Texas dates, either, but that Vegas date is looking like a good time for a road trip.
Steve, who cares what the League looks like - Belinda is still hot!

Sweet! Good googily goo! My head just imploded and I've run out of body parts to sell. Ugh!

Oh Em Gee -- Human League SO does look like Bravo reality judges (I'm such an addict of those damn shows.)
My pop-culture worlds are totally morphing together.
That's one hell of a lineup, though. And august 28 is on a thursday... hmmm...

Wow, that IS a great show. Think of how much fun that would be. I can see myself doing the 80s dance now. Too bad they aren't coming anywhere near me. (great for those around me that DON'T have to see me do the 80s dance) I love Naked Eyes.

Spot on assessment of their appearance.
That photo has inspired me. I'm going to start wearing more ruffled shirts.

If I'd been really clever, I'd have thought up a name for the Bravo series that Human League would host. Alas, I'm still in vacation mode.
I could probably pull off getting to Vegas for the Aug. 2 show. I have some leftover airfare credit to use up.
Anyone else up for a Vegas roadtrip?

OK, not that I give a rat's patooty about pretty women waitin'

I just had a "me-only" summer getaway with pals to San Francisco canceled -- I'm thinking this might just be the ticket (no pun intended) to fill that slot. That's a hell of a lineup. And it's Vegas, baby!
Posted by: jane | April 11, 2008 at 03:13 PM
do i hear a SIT80s road trip?
Posted by: Tonianne | April 11, 2008 at 03:59 PM
I do believe I'm hearing the same thing, Miss Toni... the siren's call of drinking, debauchery and decadence, telling us to hit the road, jack.
I'm also thinking that Human League is either the hosts of "What the #$(&@# Are You Wearing?" or the updated version of "Sprockets." (Now is the time on Sprockets when we dance... to "Fascination!")
Posted by: jane | April 11, 2008 at 04:59 PM
Do you want to touch my monkey?
OK, seriously. I have it on my calendar. When we bookin?
Posted by: Tonianne | April 11, 2008 at 05:04 PM
I've also got it on the calendar. But I don't believe tickets are on sale -- yet.
I'm thinking that this is the show venue, but there's nothing official on their calendar:

For the love of god, 80's nation invading Vegas. Now that is a show I'd pay to see.
Posted by: Mike in Austin | April 11, 2008 at 08:18 PM
really nice lineup, wish I could attend the tour myself but living in Europe it is a slight bit too far away... but Human League + A Flock Of Seagulls on the same bill - terrific, hopefully all that have the chance to go will simply do so + have a great time!
Posted by: Dennis | April 12, 2008 at 05:43 AM
If we're really going to make this happen, I make this suggestion:
we need one person to volunteer to handle the show tickets and everybody can be on their own to make travel/hotel arrangements.
I've got permission from Mrs. Tex to attend. I invited her, of course, but her response was "You mean everyone there will be stuck in the 80's?!?" I currently set the odds of her going at 50/50.
Posted by: Big Tex | April 12, 2008 at 09:19 AM
Great suggestion, Big Tex. Way to get us organized. I'm wondering if we might not need a sidebar place to discuss the details of this adventure, so as not to tie up the blog... but I have no idea what that might look like. I'm certainly open to helping coordinate things -- the event planner in me is dying to come out.
And YAY! for you getting the thumbs-up to join us.

Keep in mind we don't necessarily need to stay at Planet Hollywood.
Right now, I'm seeing room rates for about $150-$170 a night for any place I'd consider decent on the strip. (It's a weekend, so rates will be higher.)
Flights from Tampa are running about $350 to $450 (leaving Friday, returning Sunday).
Posted by: Spears | April 12, 2008 at 11:30 AM
I'm actually thinking about doing a Thurs/Sun visit, logic being that if I'm going to be flying (on southwest) all that way, I might as well make it worthwhile -- and then having a spa/pool/drinking/casino day on friday.
what lodging do you define as being 'decent?'
Posted by: jane | April 12, 2008 at 11:53 AM
Actually, I'm a big fan of the 3-night Vegas trip. I usually do 3 nights myself.
As far as decent, I just prefer to stay on the Strip itself -- no sense getting nickel and dimed by cabbies. Supposedly the Tropicana is the cheapest one near Planet Hollywood. It's running about $100 a night for those dates. Planet Hollywood is closer to $200 a night.

Hell, count me and mrs. mike in austin in. Just did a family huddle, the kids are a bit pissed that they can't see Human League (hell, they only know the main stream hits). Friggin kids, I'm spending some JACK just to see Asia in Dallas!!
If someone is going to be the tip of the spear than step forward (Jane???). A group rate is always better than a single rate.
Actually I have a secret desire to be on taxi cab confessions and profess my love for Air Supply, Culture Club, singing Lionel Richie ballads in the shower and of course wishing deep down I was either Robert Smith or Stuart Goddard, allegedly.

Very cool about the In Austins -- I laughed out loud at the term "friggin' kids," though.
The Tropicana could be an interesting option -- it totally says old school Vegas to me. And it's not in a bad location, either.
Posted by: jane | April 12, 2008 at 07:37 PM
Good call, Mike. I just got off the phone w/PH. Group rates apply only for blocks of 10 rooms or more. Should this be the case, for Thurs.-Sun. double occupancy, we're looking at $109.00 (31 Aug.), $189.00 (1 Aug.) and $199.00 (2 Aug.) Additionally, the rates are better if we book our rooms individually with a credit card, rather than have one blanket reservation.
Totally agree with you Steve, regarding a place on the strip.
Jane, you are going to need a clip board. And maybe a whistle.
Posted by: Tonianne | April 12, 2008 at 07:50 PM
No kidding about the clip board. No whistle, needed though. My dulcet tones can totally project through just about any cacophony.
I just looked at hotelplanner.com regarding group hotel rates -- there are some interesting options available, but only when starting with a block of 10 rooms or more. So we'll see.

Sounds like a plan 80's folk. Let me be the first to throw out my personal email address so whomever leads the charge can start corralling the troops. The sooner we get the ball rolling the better.
Let me think out loud here,
80's nation trip checklist to Vegas:
1) dust off leather jacket with Star Trek pins on the lapel
2) find my solid white Levis 550
3) Order creepers online
4) find my matching set of small loop earrings
5) visit The Limited, The Chess King, DJ's and The Merry Go Round in the mall to ensure I'm up to date with the current fashions
6) Watch Valley Girl, Reckless and Breakfast Club continuously
7) Wax my back so when I take off shirt I look half decent (Werewolves of Vegas!)
8) Bring lighter for all the slow songs
9) Recall my cheesy pick up lines from the 80's (hell it got me married)
For example: You know smoking
stunts your sex drive???
10) Review High School year books to "set the tone" for the night

Mike, you are one one-the-ball dude. Most excellent list. Way to get this planning stuff underway.
While you're at Chess King, I'll be over at Benetton. We can meet at Orange Julius once we're done checking things out.

You're not going to believe this, but iy just so happens the whole "in Cuba" tribe will be in the States on August 2nd, on our way to a family reunion in the Idaho panhandle.
We think we can work Vegas into the itinerary. Somebody bring a babysitter!
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | April 12, 2008 at 10:12 PM
No frickin' way -- that's the most crazy and awesome bit of serendipitous timing I've ever encountered. Jeff and Harriot and the whole In Cuba gang. Wow.
And I learned something new: that Idaho has a panhandle. I thought just my fair state and OK were the only ones with that distinction.
Posted by: jane | April 12, 2008 at 11:32 PM
I'm sure Mike will point out that Texas also has a panhandle, which in true Texas fashion, is bigger than everyone else's.
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | April 13, 2008 at 08:56 AM
HA! Good point -- and a shameful exposé of my lack of knowledge about the nuances of US geography.
Posted by: jane | April 13, 2008 at 12:43 PM
I should probably also add that as a former resident of the high desert, I can assure you that nothing you've ever experienced can truly prepare you for hellish torment that is Las Vegas in August.
It will be a buck-twenty in the shade, and even the most rudimentary outdoor physical exertion will cause you to burst into flames. And don't listen to the usual palaver about "it's a dry heat". So's my oven, but you don't see me crawling inside.
Luckily our plans will call for indoor action with lots of liquids.

Who cares about belinda, Suzanne Sulley of Human League is so hoooooot!!! What a body for a 44 year old ;)
