More Thompson Twins please!
Rabid fans of The Thompson Twins have started an online petition in hopes of getting a rarities collection released by the band's record company. (Click here to see the petition and sign up.)
What are the odds of success? Well, there are only 48 signatures on it to date. Still you have to admire the passion. There's even a MySpace page devoted to the cause. The petition claims to have the support of band leader Tom Bailey.
Though the Brit act had a relatively short career (lasting from 1977 to 1993), more than 20 compilations of their work are floating around in various forms, including 2007's "Love On Your Side - The Best of the Thompson Twins."
Two of the band's best-known albums -- "Into the Gap" and "Quick Step and Side Kick" -- were re-released last month as 2-CD packages, including remixes, extended cuts and tunes that that didn't make the original albums.
Rarities aside, you know you're not leaving this item without a top 10 list, right?

Love the Thompson Twins. I picked up a copy of 'Here's To Future Days' from Amazon a couple of months ago. That is still my favorite album by them. I like the cover of the Beatles' 'Revolution' that they did.

Strangest thing about the Thompson Twins, was there attempt at going Techno. Check out the song Play With Me from the Cool World soundtrack. I think 1992, so not technically 80's but an interesting footnote to the TT's career. Great soundtrack, btw, even though the movie itself was a litle on the lame side. Notable for being an early screen appearance of Brad Pitt.

One of the earliest concerts I went to -- and one of the best -- was Berlin opening for the Thompson Twins at UNO in New Orleans. Great show. Saw them a second time a few years later with OMD. Another great show.

Thompson Twins? Yea! Dig the Thompson Twins.
Online Petitions? Come on. Haven't we all learned by now that online petitions are only as good as the paper the signatures are on?

I wore out my cassette of "Into the Gap."
It's also quite wonderful that all these fantabulous 80s are resurfacing for the younger generation. Now maybe they'll recognize how much sampling goes on.
I'm rambling. I'm tired due to antihistimines. Blah

Absolutely loved the Thompson Twins... tried to shave my eyebrows off like Alanna Currie at one point in my childhood (mom walked in just time).
The list is great, especially number one. I do agree that they did a good cover of Revolution too.
:)

When are you going to do a Thompson Twins podcast?

Great list. Really great list.
On my list of fave Thompson Twins songs is their version of Cole Porter's "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" from 1990's Red Hot & Blue compilation album. Very cool, very understated. Dig it.

I remember me and my fellow ABC-Bay Pines folks going to see the Twins at the Tampa Theater a million years ago. Got to hang out with Tom and Alanna; super nice folks.

Thanks for mentioning this.
Yes, there were only 48 signatures... that was 2 days after I created the petition.
Now, there are 179 signatures, as I write.
Hey, who knows if this will work, no harm in trying.
And yes, me and Tom Bailey have discussed this and he agrees its a good idea and said he will get involved if it takes off.
Rabid fans?? haha! Yeah probably a bit mad... but not "mad dogs" :-)
