"Those summer nights are calling..."
This could be a big summer for die-hard Journey fans -- both of them. No, just kidding. Though I was mocked via e-mail last week by a new friend who is completely baffled with my love affair with the band: "I really, really hate Journey. Do you now rescind your friendship?" she asked.
It's Journey, baby! Love means never having to sing "I'm sorry" in falsetto.
Things seem to be clicking again for our San Fran friends. The band just unveiled a redesigned website, a brand new singer, a new album is coming in June and a U.S tour begins in July.
The new album is "Revelation" and is set for release June 3. Don't expect any advance reviews; the band's management says no copies will be made available to critics before the release date.
"Revelation" is actually planned as a three-disc set. The first disc will have 11 re-recorded Journey classics, presumably with Arnel Pineda now on vocals instead of Steve Perry. The second disc has 11 new songs. The third disc is a concert DVD.
Journey will back up "Revelation" with a tour, set to begin July 9 in Denver. For Tampa Bay fans, Journey is is set to play Tampa's Ford Amphitheatre with Heart and Cheap Trick on July 30. Still no word on when tickets go on sale. I'd gladly pay double to sit an ice chest instead of a regular seat. Outdoor shows in July? Who's cryin' now!

E-mail Steve Spears:

I may not be a rabid fan of Journey, but I don't understand someone having hatred for the group. Many of their songs transport me to some pretty amazing times in my life.
Once, on a bus to somewhere, a group of us sang "Lights" a capella complete with harmony. Yeah, good times.

I'll give you that ice chest and raise you a refrigerated/ice truck. It'll be hot... Africa hot! Tarzan couldn't take that kinda hot late July in Florida brings.
But jane can (no word on how Cheetah feels) -- and will most likely endure it to see this gig.
Journey's great -- always have been, always will be... but I'm really pumped about the sisters Wilson.

I second that, Jane. Seeing Heart perform on Idol Gives Back just fueled my hunger to see them live. Although, I have no clue when they'll hit Chi-town. It only gets sticky hot here in the summer. Tarzan would find it comfortable.

if you actually listen to the steve perryless journey, they're are some pretty good tunes. although i didnt like the way they sacked their last singer(jeff scott soto), im looking forward to the new cd. i already made room for it in my cd folder. the lineup they have for the new tour is stellar. i might have to make a trip to houston for a show, since hardly no one steps feet in louisiana anymore.

Love Heart, saw them in New Orleans back on the "Passionworks" tour in 1984. Great show, although Ann admitted not remembering all the words to "Dog and Butterfly" but encouraged the audience to sing along. Great fun. I have to say I'm a bit reserved of the "new" Journey. To me it's not the same without Steve Perry. Just as Asia was not the same without John Wetton. They are the soul of the groups, IMO.

Steve would "gladly pay double to sit (on) an ice chest instead of a regular seat"? If their Charlotte, N.C., ticket prices are indication, you WILL.
I was looking forward to this show for the triple bill, not just for Journey -- until I saw the prices. Covered seats are going for $125 or $85 -- and that's BEFORE the "convenience charge" and "facility charge." Want an uncovered seat? $85 or $59.50. Want a "glorified lawn seat" (an uncovered seat in the back corners)? $39.50. Might as well grab the standing-room lawn ticket ($23.50) at that price.
I could see a group currently on the charts charging these prices, but a nostalgia act? I realize it's three nostalgia acts for one price, but COME ON!!! No wonder tickets are still available at all price levels for the Charlotte show.
Cut these ridiculously overpriced tickets by 50 percent, and maybe you'll see me in a seat. Otherwise, maybe I'll wave at you from the lawn. >:-\
(And don't even get me started again on "re-recorded Journey classics" with a different vocalist ...)
