« Me and Deborah? Only in my dreams | Main | Four unexpected words: Boy George on tour »

We're still lost in her eyes

Deborah_studio_for_webDeborah Gibson's in-person visit this week still has the Stuck in the 80s headquarters building in sunny St. Petersburg, Fla., in a tizzy.

And why not? She was the last great singer-songwriter of the '80s, and she'd probably still be kicking out Top 10 hits today if that plague of grunge, boy bands and Britney wannabes hadn't infected the music biz in the '90s.

But don't write Deborah off just yet. She told us yesterday she has an album's worth of ideas and songs -- and she's just waiting for the right time to launch the comeback bid.

Here's a short video with highlights from our conversation with her. You'll have to wait until the weekend for the full podcast tribute.

So pretty! And funny. And Debbie Gibson is cute too.

So, how long did it take Sean to run out and try to acquire the Playboy photos one way or another? :-) Even though his back was to the camera, I can imagine the eyes twinkling....

I always pictured a darkened production booth, a bottle of Wild Turkey, and two commemorative Smurf glasses from Burger King. Was what I saw an aberration?

If I'd known she sounded that smart I might have gotten over my distaste for pop and bought a couple of her albums in high school.

Well, Walter, there's the studio -- where we were sitting (where Sean normally sits alone, sometimes wearing only a hoodie) -- and then there's the darkened control booth, where I normally sit with my chosen beverages. I was not too comfortable sitting there under the lights for an hour.

Great video! I really look forward to the podcast.

I was never a big fan of Debbie Gibson back in the day; however, "I Get Lost In Your Eyes" has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. One which made me catch a lot of grief from my friends in college at the time.

I can't wait for the podcast. Deborah came off very intelligent, and funny. I never had a problem with Miss Gibson, and I still own her first album. I especially liked what she had to say about today's teen celebs.

Groovy! She seems very comfortable in her own skin. I'm sure the podcast will be stellar.

Thank you very much for keeping the camera locked at an angle that didn't let Daly's mug show much. Oh, but Spears' did. Never mind.

Seriously, very cool.

I fully expected Sean to turn and pull a Stanley Roper. You remember when he'd turn to the camera and give that 'knowing' look. Perhaps in the extended director's cut it happens.

The great Steve Persall! Can I say right now that I make all my movie choices according to his reviews? Seriously. I do.

Except for his unusually positive review of Tin Cup.

I also make my movie choices based on Mr. Persall's reviews. He's not yet steered me wrong. Seriously.

Awesome video, guys. Can't wait for the full podcast.
