Bratislava hates the 80s!
It sounded like a dream show -- Kim Wilde, Howard Jones and Kajagoogoo. The three acts were all set to appear in "80s Idols" -- a mega-show scheduled for ... Bratislava?
The May 23 show has been canceled because the promoter dropped the ball on his end of the deal, according to the always-informative Remember The Eighties website.
Hey, if Bratislava can't swing enough interest, send those three acts to the U.S. for the summer. They can join up with the Regeneration Tour and turn it into 80s festival weekend.
TICKETS ON SALE: Speaking of the Regeneration Tour, tickets for the Aug. 2 Las Vegas stop went on sale on Saturday. If you're planning on hooking up with me and the other Stuck in the 80s fans traveling to Vegas for that weekend, drop me an e-mail.

That's it Marissa, thanks for the scoop. (Still, somehow I enjoy calling it "I don't suck" rather than it's proper name.) I seem to recall that Wang Chung was very good, and Loverboy, not so much. Hey, (since we're announcing bday/concert combos)my 39th birthday is May 29, and hubby is taking me to see my boyfriend Rick Springfield the next day! Woo, Rick for my birthday! (Yes, I'll be 39, not 13- but Rick brings out my inner 13 year old!)

Hey! The show was named, oddly, "Hit Me Baby One More Time" ~ They couldn't have found a more 80s inspired title?

Hey! May 23rd is payday for me! ha!
Sherrie, I know what show you're talking about. Wang Chung, Flock of Seagulls, Cameo, Sophie B. Hawkins, Irene Cara etc, competed. I think Irene Cara took the prize, though.

Hey, May 23rd is my 35th birthday.
Yeah, Bratislava. Woo hoo hoo!

You're not going to believe this, but I had a couple of representatives from the Government of Slovakia in my backyard for drinks this weekend (long story.)
I wish I had known about this, since I was struggling for topics of conversation (this may come as a surprise, but my knowledge of Slovakian pop culture is fairly limited.)
Come on, Bratislava! Throw off your mental chains!

May 23rd? That's my 41st birthday. that would've been a heck of a birthday present (that and tickets from Chicago to Bratislava). Would have been a killer show.

I would LOVE to see Howard Jones in concert! He was on that TV show a few years ago where "vintage" acts perform and a winner is selected...I can never remember the name of it so I always call it "I don't suck" since that's what the retro acts seemed to be saying with every ounce of their being. Anyway...HoJo was really, really good on the show and I bet he puts on a good live show. Those fools in Bratislava don't know what they're missing!
