Podcast: Bon Jovi fans are nutballs
The latest Stuck in the 80s podcast is online. This week's topic: Why Times music critic Sean Daly and I are the most hated men in America after our honest but less-than-glowing review of the recent Bon Jovi show here in Tampa.
The hate mail continues to pour in. A Brinks armored truck just pulled up with some odd packages addressed to "Scumbag at Stuck in 80s," and once the bomb-sniffing dogs are done with them, I'll see what fate awaits me. Likewise, Sean's voice mail is filled with obscene (but funny) insults regarding his concert review -- and his distinctive Butch Patrick hairline.
Just to be clear: We liked the concert. It was fun. That's good enough, right? Surely it wasn't as epic as the Van Halen show a few months ago. So all you Jersey meatheads, relax! You're boy is always welcome here on the Stuck in the 80s blog. In fact, with Richie Sambora starring in next season's "Rock of Love," I dare say you'll get your share of press in the coming months.

So you put my fan greeting on the air, good. Hey,let`s make justice to Sean on this blog.I like the man!
I watched that VH1 show The 100 Greatest Songs of the 80s where they chose Bon Jovi`s song as number 1.It`s just hilarious! I had tears in my eyes,so much i was laughing at that point.

Sean, you're going to take a beating for the 'Whack-Pack' comment.

It's not the first time Sean has referred to the female fans of SIT80s as 'the whack pack.' When Tom Jones co-hosted Sean warns him about the whack pack.
You gave your honest opinions about the concert. Nuff said. Move on ... as should the Bon Jovi fanatics.

Wow, no one has used the phrase, "oh yes Marissa!!" in ages. That was nice, Miguel.
Please report back and tell us how the guest DJ gig works out.

I just woke up.What a night! It was good, really good. I was a affraid that people wouldn`t adhere to an 80s night but it was the opposite.Crowded dance floor the all night. After my gig ,when i was having a drink with friends,i received a lot of compliments from people, thanking for the memories of great old times, so that was cool.A friend told me that Jared Leto and his band were there, but i can`t confirm it.I know they played in Lisbon last night, but i didn`t see them in the club so it might not be true, i don`t know.
Anyway,Lisbon was all 80s last night,at least that club was.Ah!Ah!
Good music, lots of fun, lots of drunk people(there was a college republic party there, lots of foreign hot chicks to.)
Steve,i did not use Depeche Mode or Frankie to start the night, but i used them later on.
To finish, there was an interesting story.I had two possible endings, one more sentimental, the other all party, so when i was almost finishing i made a test to see how crazy people were at that point. There are two ways of doing it.One,you throw in the middle of all this cool music a horrible ABBA song and see how people react to it.If they dance to it they`re wasted! The way i did it thow was a cooler way.It had nothing to do with dance, but i threw a great Pogues song, Transmetropolitan, and i must say people went nuts on that dance floor,a girl started striping,so oubviously we had a party ending(the last song was Blister in the Sun).
It was a fun,fun night!

I went to see an 80's cover band about a week ago, The Spazmatics, and they also ended the night with Blister In the Sun, so I'd say that's a universal pick for closing a night out! What cracked me up was when a front row fan apparently requested Toto's Africa. The band said they loved the song but didn't know it. I think most people enjoy that song, but I hardly think it's a good pick for a dance club environment.
"Wow, no one has used the phrase, "oh yes Marissa!!" in ages." -- Haha, so hilarious...
