Police will call it quits in NYC

Police450

The Police are going to wrap things up pretty much in the same place they started: New York City.

The band announced this week that they'll play their "last ever" show this summer in New York --  though the exact date and venue haven't been decided yet.

"We kicked off our very first American tour at CBGB's in 1978 and this summer, 30 years later, our journey will come full circle as we play our final show here in New York City," the band said on their official website.

The Police also pledged to donate $1-million to the city to plant 10,000 trees and said the final concert's proceeds will go to fund public television in New York.

The band is still traveling around North American on its reunion tour, which isn't set to end until early August. The Police have two shows coming up in Florida -- May 16 in Orlando and May 17 in West Palm Beach.

Highly recommend trying to catch this tour if you can -- I saw the guys twice last summer and both gigs were fan-frickin-tastic.

Fab photo too. Sigh.

But you knew I was going to say that.

I was unable to finagle my work schedule for both concerts in my area and the prices were a bit too much for my wallet.

I would have LOVED to gone. I did, however, acquire an audio recording of the Vancouver "dress rehearsal". It was quite good. A bit of unfriendly banter between Sting and Stewart, but good performance overall.

Jane, I envy you!

This is so sad for me...I celebrated my 15th b-day on the 5th row of the Synchronicity tour in Houston in 1983, when tickets were just $13.50.

I saw them again last year, wearing my concert shirt from 1983. Jane's right...fan-frikin-tastic...even though the tickets were 10 times more expensive!

VineyardWoman -- I too saw them on the Synchronicity tour in Tallhassee in 1983. What I paid for tickets this go-round was quite a bit more as well -- but totally worth it -- and I had a hell of a great time. Don't have my original concert shirt -- but I do still have my original Police buttons, including my prized Stewart ones, natch.

And cheezestake, I also have that Vancouver audio -- it's a great listen still.
