Why Peter Gallagher is my hero
Ah yes, "Summer Lovers." The 1982 flick starred Mr. Gallagher as ... I believe he's listed as "Luckiest Man on Earth" in the credits after basically spending a summer in the Greek isles having sex with Daryl Hannah and Valérie Quennessen.
While I work feverishly on editing our "Summer in the 80s" podcast, please enjoy the cheese-tastic trailer of one of my favorite summer movies.

1. You made me rent this awful movie last summer...
2. Who drinks out of a vase anyway? Bad analogy.

I loved it, Jane. So, I guess that's a yes.

Which I've never seen, now that I think of it. Crash the second, that is. Hmmm. Is it worth a rental?
Posted by: jane | May 31, 2008 at 11:54 AM
Yeah, CRASH sans 'ed'. Definitely not to be mistaken with the Academy Award winning film from 2004.

Crash the first (as I think of it) is indeed a weird, wild flick. Car accidents as aphrodisiacs. Who knew.

James Spader. "CRASHED" ~ very bizarre indie flick.

No way - would never have worked. Valerie was like a mustang, she needed to be free. Expecting her to settle down would destroy the very essence of her being he was attracted to in the first place.
I have way too many opinions about this film.

Seeing Peter Gallagher in Sex, Lies and Videotape took care of that for me. Another movie I haven't seen in forever that I should give a rewatch (James Spader!)
But Gallagher will always be ok in my book, as he's in maybe my favorite guilty pleasure movie of the '90s -- While You Were Sleeping.

Peter gives the Royal Treatment to a couple more people in this flick.
He should have settled down with Valerie.

Any memory of Gallagher's work was erased after seeing him as Buddy Kane, "The Real Estate King" in AMERICAN BEAUTY
"yes your majesty!!!"

It's been just this side of forever since I saw this movie. Wow.
I want to watch it again, just to see if Peter Gallagher's Eyebrows got screen credit for they appear to play a nice supporting role.

I like Spandau Ballet. I like "True". I like Napoleon Dynamite. I run with scissors just to prove I'm dangerous and crazy.

Mike - "Uncle Rico" is so sticking, dude.

So sorry Marissa, in my head, I'm that guy from Napolean Dynamite, uncle Ricco. I think Kahn said it best....I was a prince.....just making a funny.

I won't comment on Spandau Ballet, but as far as Summer Lovers is concerned, the cheese most assuredly does not stand alone.
Riss/Mike - to Netflix. Pronto.

Oh Mike, you're such the big monkey stud on the SIT80s campus.

Can't we go back?

I've never seen this movie. There. I admit it.
Posted by: Marissa | May 31, 2008 at 10:34 AM
OMIGOD.
Sean gives you nothing but grief over liking Spandau Ballet's "True," and I have been foursquare in your corner, my friend. But this public proclamation using the word "favorite" in the same sentence as SUMMER LOVERS?
The cheese stands alone.
