Willie and Scott ... friends forever
We recorded our epic "Top 10 TV Theme Songs of the 80s" podcast today, and now I'm stuck singing "Charles in Charge" at my desk over and over and over again. (And if click this link, now it's in your head too.)
Where did the song fall on the list? You'll have to wait for the weekend to hear the show and discover. However, I will reveal that, during an uncomfortable moment of silence in the show, I confessed my never-dying admiration for the Scott Baio/Willie Aames dynasty of acting.
Which makes you wonder: How much longer must we wait for our podcast tribute to 1982's "Zapped?" Click here to see the never-released trailer for the movie.

Relive the music, movies and culture of the greatest decade ever with Times online editor Steve Spears. A teen during the decade, Steve is obsessed with everything from Duran Duran to Journey, John Hughes to John Cusack, and parachute pants to Reaganomics.
E-mail Steve Spears:

actually i kinda like scott baio. his reality show on vh1 was funny as heck. i never was a charles in charge viewer. i saw a few episodes. but i will say the chemistry between him and willie was pretty good. i have seen zapped. its a decent flick, but i dont know if its good enough to tape over asia in asia.

Don't do it Chad! Asia in Asia is far superior to "Zapped". Besides, how can you not admire Mark Goodman's man perm? Classic...

I have probably seen every episode of Charles in Charge -- new AND old family. As a chick, I can fully understand the appeal of Scott and Willie. I guess that's probably why I love the SIT80s Sausage Hang. It's similar. Except I don't have a Spearsy poster on my bedroom door that I kiss religiously each morning. Well, not yet anyway.

Oh, and did you notice how much Scott resembles Harry Potter in that picture above? Or rather Harry resembles Scott. Do you think J.K. Rowling was a fan of ZAPPED?

It's sweet how open you are with your feelings about Baio, Spears! Any time you want to borrow my cell phone for the ring tone, just say the word.

I stayed up to watch that historic event as well. Too bad it was with Greg Lake who did a poor John Wetton impersonation. But awesome none the less. I just wished that Alan would have hosted the concert instead of Mark.

Alan Hunter? Mark Goodman. Ladies and gentlemen, there was only one VJ worth idolizing -- the still pixish and sweet Martha Quinn.
We're hoping to hang out with her in Vegas during the Stuck in the 80s get-together.

Marissa - There's a Spearsy poster available? I'll get one and put it on the inside of my closet door so my husband won't see...

No poster available to the general public, but you'd be amazed what Kinkos can do with a snapshot lifted from a website.
OK, now I'm totally getting jealous about the SIT80s Viva Las Vegas trip. Martha is a goddess! Now I have to go pout.

Uh oh, Eric. Mike Post didn't write the theme to "Taxi". That was Bob James and the tune was called "Angela".

I am patiently waiting for the Joanie Loves Chachi DVD.
