Catch SIT80s live on radio today

Flee If you're in the Tampa Bay area, tune to WMNF 88.5-FM today from 4 to 6 p.m., when I'll be joining my good friend Flee during his weekly radio show, "Sonic Detour."

We'll be spinning tunes from the bands playing Saturday's Regeneration Tour stop in Clearwater at Ruth Eckerd Hall. And Flee will be giving away a pair of free tickets to the first person who can answer a fiendishly clever trivia question I've cooked up.

I also have a few other treats in the works, including clips from interviews with Martin Fry and Pete Byrne to play. Plus, expect a few songs you've probably never heard on the radio before: the acoustic version of "Always Something There to Remind Me" and the new ABC single "The Very First Time" off the just-released album "Traffic."

If you're outside Tampa Bay, no fear -- WMNF streams its show live on the Internet. Here's a link to download today's show. In the meantime, I'm happy to take requests on which songs to play today from ABC, The Romantics, Missing Persons, A Flock of Seagulls and Naked Eyes.

Jeff from Vegas

Thank you, Steve. That was a really nice thing to write.

Bassnote

My comment on the show; not enough Spearsie, and not enough 80s tunes.

Spears

I was surprised how quickly people answered the radio show's trivia question.

And Jeff, the Regeneration Show here won't be nearly the same without you, Stacie and the VGF there.

Jeff from Vegas

Steve, if I thought we could get down to see the show, I totally would have called in for the trivia question. Rats!

Vegasgirlfriend

Click on the "Most Recent Show" link under Monday, Spearsie comes on about 16 minutes in.

Vegasgirlfriend

Thanks Spearsie - you never disappoint me.

Jeff in Vegas - mad props to Stacy for the wonderful comment she made about me on the podcast, esp since you two had to put up with Steve and I grabbing each other constantly during Regeneration.

Spears

VGF it is, then. Though that does have an odd military feel to it. Like "Vertical Gravitational Force" or something.

...

Just a weird technical snafu during the show where my ABC disc stopped playing suddenly. No one's fault. Hope everyone enjoyed the new ABC single -- "The Very First Time." I'm hoping to pick up a copy of "Traffic" at Ruth Eckerd Hall on Saturday night. Maybe I'll buy two and give one away on the podcast.

Jeff in Cuba

Fearless Leader,

I really prefer "VGF" when referring to Vegas Girlfriend.

"VG" just strikes me as a little too anatomical.

Spears

Ah yes, the VG is putty in my hands when she hears "All of My Heart." That's why we played it 1.5 times during the show. (I like to exceed expectations.)

Jeff from Vegas

Well, I'm at home recovering from an abcess, so the streaming audio at work thing isn't a problem. Tuned in just in time to catch the new ABC song.

Bassnote

A little technical difficulty with the ABC tune, "All Of My Heart". I'm assuming this is the one that Vegas Girlfriend wanted played.

Christine

Streaming as I type this... Seagull's Wishing, please.

Former Producer Dave

"When the Lights Go Out" by Naked Eyes, Spearsie. Or is it Steven Q. Spears? I can never remember.....and you'd BETTER give me back my recorder some day or you'll never see a Christmas card from me ever again!!! Ha, that'll get him! ;-)

Jeff from Vegas

Very cool, Steve. My workplace frowns on streaming audio, but I'll see if I can catch some of the show anyway.

Douglas Arthur

that should say "fave". Damn iPhone text recognized thingie!

Douglas Arthur

I Ran & Space Age Love Song both get all the pub, but my gave Seagull tune was always Wishing. So I say you play that.

Von

Spearsy, beware of Flee mooning you & the listening audience. That guy can't keep his pants up.

Melissa

Noticeable One by Missing Persons

Vegasgirlfriend

Spearsie, you know which ABC song I want to hear!

Spears

No, just Dale for this tour.

Bassnote

"(What) In The Name Of Love" by Naked Eyes would be a good one to play. "That Was Then But This Is Now" or "S.O.S." by ABC from the Beauty Stab album would also be very cool to hear. As far as Missing Persons goes, play "Destination Unknown." Is Terry Bozzio (the drummer) with Missing Persons this time around?

Spears

Wow, they're teasing TO me instead of people just teasing me. Life's good all of a sudden.

Sherrie

I'm listening to the Internet feed at work now, and they just did a tease for Steve's appearance this afternoon. (Is it an appearance when no one can see you?)
