'Crockett, Tubbs ... in my office!'

Chasemiamivice Lately, I've been browsing through the archives of the Stuck in the 80s podcast collection, just curious to see how the show has changed over its three years.

This morning's big find: The incredibly entertaining -- and yet very informative -- episode about Miami Vice, featuring former St. Pete Times television critic Chase Squires. The podcast was released on April 27, 2006, just days before Chase left the Times to pursue a career running from mountain lions outside Denver.

It was only our 38th show, and Chase carries it. He's the ultimate "Vice" fan, and his passion for the show is what drove me to eventually invest in the complete DVD collection of the series. (And one of these days, if I can ever learn to stop spending every night worshiping "Fletch" and swilling amber beverages, I'll get around to watching them.)

In the meantime, click here to listen to our "Miami Vice" episode. And if you want to catch up on Chase's current exploits, check out his Dirty Thoughts blog. It's -- as I used to always say -- fantastiche!

count me in as one of the people who didnt watch miami vice inthe 80s. i saw some episodes when they used to play it on usa network. i got the dvds when they came out, it is a classic show. for a tv show, the visuals are fantastic. even all these years later, the show isnt dated much, even with the clothes. every now and then ill pull out the dvds, and watch a whole season in a few days. great show

Ah Miami Vice!

Unfortunately I didn't realize how good the show was until I started watching it in reruns. I would occasionally watch it during the 80s and remember thinking that the music was awesome and so was the fashion. T-shirt, sport's coat, no socks. . .that was me!

Thinking about the sport's coat brings to mind a "no so smooth moment" I almost had. When I was a teenager, I was notorious for finding out what I was getting for Christmas and my birthday (which was only a few days from Christmas). You see, I was go looking for my unwrapped presents and I would even unwrap my presents (stealthfully), look to see what I was getting and then carefully rewrap the present. I was meticulous!

Well, with that said, I was at my Grandparent's house and it was a day before my birthday. I was going to out with my cousin and her female friends. I knew I was getting a Miami Vice sport's coat for my birthday and I NEEDED it for that night out with the ladies! I begged and pleaded but my mom would not give in. I was desperate! So desperate that I almost said, "well, I know I'm getting a Miami Vice jacket!". I almost said it but then my good sense took over and I realized that IF I did then the odds were great that my mom would have returned the jacket.

So, I went out that night. . .jacketless and feeling not so cool with the ladies.

Miami vice was Awesome!

so cool for its time
and still not dated except for no PC's on the desk

my brother worked for the show catering the cast & crew

Tubb's was really cool and Crocket was a dick
the nicest guy on the set was the big redish hair cop who doesnt look good in hawaiian shirts

the chef's for TV have a thankless job..they are the first to get there to serve breakfeast barritos and the last to finish as they have to clean the truck and THEN food shop for the next day

p.s.
St. pete movie's he did was Cacoon and
Summer Rental...
In summer Rental he was told he could use the stove (which looked unworkable)at the "ponce de leon" hotel downtown which was closed for renevation
"the restaurant" scene where john Candy orders the lobster.
well, the stove caused a fire in the hotel!
