Are you ready for the 'Wild Boy'?
Do you have plenty of free time today? Because you'll need it for this week's Stuck in the '80s podcast: an interview with former Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor.
This episode clocks in at an hour and 15 minutes -- our longest show ever -- but it's worth it. Andy's a great interview, and you're going to want to run out and buy his new book, Wild Boys: My Life in Duran Duran, immediately after you're done listening. Seriously, we only scratch the surface of the drama and craziness behind the scenes of the signature band of the '80s.
The highlight: Andy retells the drama and surprise ending to Duran Duran's performance before Princess Diana back in '83. (Another great moment: Andy's imitation of Nick Rhodes' and John Lennon's "brummie" accents.)
But wait, there's so much more:
- Two more surprise guest calls!
- Our official top 5 list of Most Underrated Duran Duran Songs!
- The best reader e-mail ever (someone has a crush on my co-host)!
- Pop music critic Sean Daly's woefully inept sucking-up!
How will your day end? Probably spending 50 bucks on iTunes downloading a ton of Duran Duran songs, like I'm doing now. (Man, why did I give up on them in the '90s!?!)

Great interview guys! I'm not even a big DD fan (my wife, however, is a huge fan). Andy's is an excellent intervew and his John Lennon was SPOT ON!
I gotta say, I am a new listener to the podcast (i needed something to get me through the day other then Keith and the Girl and Kevin Smith's Smodcast) and I am pleasantly surprised. I started coming to the site because I am a huge John Hughes fan and like the nostalgic aspect of the site, but totally dig the podcast.
Keep up the GREAT work!

i actually quite like the liberty record, my least favs are, medazzaland and thank you. there are some good songs on each, but not enough to throw them onto the good side. pop trash i quite liked, although astronaut is a fine record. i almost burnt out my cd. i saw them on that tour, great show, the songs really come alive in concert.

Steve, you weren't the only one who gave up on DD in the 90s.
Liberty (1990) was also pitifully promoted by the record company, as perhapsd the lyrics were weak.
The Wedding Album was a return to grace, and surprised the record company (and all of us, really).
When DD released Red Carpet Massacre (and 2004's Astronaut too), we celebrated by broadcasting Every Single Ever Released by them. Every single not every song.
It was awesome to hear their sound change in timeline fashion over the years yet their energy still the same - except for their 2000 album Pop Trash. That one was a big disappointment. Pop Trash definitely lives under Liberty in the bottom of the DD barrel.

I know the last drum roll in guess the 80s tune.
I saw Duran Duran live on their Red Carpet Massacre show, and it was GORGEOUS.

Cathy
yes we have great libraries there! I miss them! You don't have to tell me about the bookstores... very interesting, great people watching!!
You're where my relatives are, I have family in Renton and Snohomish county. Cool beans!!

Picked up the book.
I'll let you know how it turns out.

specialkness-
I know Vancouver - my aunt lives there!
I'm working down in Renton and up in Snohomish county. I love the libraries here! Washington really supports them, which is a nice change. The craziness I see is in the bookstore I work at in Seattle.
Thanks!
Cathy

Cathy it was great hearing from you again, I didn't start listening to the podcasts until you'd already headed off to new adventures, but I started listening from the beginning and loved when you were on.
My husband is from Seattle and I'm from Vancouver (the one down by Portland, Oregon NOT Canada). Which library are you working in?

Bassnote-
I thought the same thing when I saw your post, but didn't want to spoil the surprise.
Thanks!

I'm up all night because I am sick as a dog, but this podcast has made me feel better. Fantastic interview, it made me want to get the book. Wonderful to hear Cathy again, and I like that her #1 was a song I posted on the blog. I still can't figure out the eighth song in the percussion montage, but I've got the first seven down. Great work again.

Hey Chase! Great to see you here again. Have a Fat Tire for me on the 18th!

Great 'cast guys, I don't even like Duran Duran and I still loved the interview.
And two things, NO, Gabrielle from Denver is NOT me ... but ... any Mile Highers still stuck in the 80s AND lucky enough to live in Denver, we should meet up at the Oct. 18 Dressy Bessy show at the Bluebird ... c'mon, you know you love seedy old Colfax Ave, just hop on the Freak Train (aka, the no. 15 bus) and head on down!
Dressy Bessy, I swear, sounds like a band transported from the 1980s!

To prep for this concert I had my Duran Duran playlist playing today on my ipod. Starting with one of favorite yet underrated Duran songs "My Own Way"
That was an amazing interview and with someone I've been dying to hear from. I cannot wait to get my hands on Andy's book. I've always loved John the best but Andy was the one that I wanted to hang out with and jam with (of course it would have helped if I actually knew how to play piano). I loved hearing about him and Nick's relationship.
Now if only the rest of Duran would agree with him on Timberland and Justin Timberland and my favorite band could get back together and you could finally see them live (brilliant show I must say!!)
And to make it even better both Sean and Steve were in on the interview.

great show, might be one of ya'll better efforts. great interview. good to hear from mrs. spears, and cathy. also great song list as well.

Steve, it's nice to know that you loved Salute to Summer Music & Movies podcast. It was mighty special for me, as well.
Cathy, it's cool you like SKIN DIVERS off "Red Carpet Massacre." I like it, too. I'm pretty sure I got on Steve's bad side musically for liking RCM.

Hi Sean & Spearsy,
The new podcast is the BEST podcast I heard so far. It was all inclusive, long & thorough. You are good talkers & so is Andy.
I have to multi-task & listen while I get the joint ready for tonight. I will get the book as soon as I finish the new Cheech & Chong. Are there lots of good pixs in the book?
Mrs. Spearsy is cute! Sean, Elvis is Everywhere for you these days, huh? & I liked the other host. I never heard her before.
One more thing & I gotta go, I vote Duran Duran should be in the R&RHOF too.
SPECIAL ALERT: THE CUBS JUST CLINHED!!
It's a Sensational Saturday.
