Olivia Newton-John is 60 years old
Even in a place where nobody knows her name, Olivia Newton-John is one of the sexiest 60-year-olds of all time. Sorry, but since today is her birthday, all her hard-core fans will be humming Xanadu in their heads.
Say what you want about the campy qualities of the 1980 flick, which starred ONJ as a roller-skating muse who sprang to life from a street mural. But it does have one of the most treasured and original soundtracks of the '80s.
Plus it co-stars -- hello? -- Michael Beck straight from his role as "Swan" in 1979's The Warriors. (Best non-'80s movie of the '80s? Could be.) And of course, everyone's favorite '80s idol, Gene Kelly -- only because he looked 80 years old at the time. (He was actually 68.)
Though she's no longer the golden ticket at the box office that she was between 1978 and 1982, ONJ's legacy is assured. Even our beloved Xanadu is now a long-running Broadway musical. The lesson in all this: Embrace the cheese, people. It's our best hope for the future.

I was just in a (very old) condo complex's fitness center that reminded me of ONJ's "Let's Get Physical" video. In fact, I was singing that song on the balcony of the fitness center with another inebriated individual last Sunday.
As for that black spandex from "Grease", it simply cannot be reasoned with. If she had been involved in the negotiations, the cold war would have ended much, much sooner. Her backside is a force all unto its own. I can't believe her boyfriend faked his own death when he had that to live for.

And "Xanadu" was written, produced, by Electric Light Orchestra's Jeff Lynne, who also sings backing vocals.
ELO was my favorite band of the 70s, so it's my favorite intersection of the two decades. I remember anxiously checking my local record stores for the album in the weeks preceding its release. It carried only ELO tunes on one side, and the anybody-else tunes on the flip side, including ONJ's duet with Cliff Richards ("Suddenly").

She still gives me chills. And they're still multiplyin'.
I was around 8 to 10 when she was HUGE, and even though I wasn't all that interested in girls yet, that whole Physical look just made me googly.

I am so glad to see Twist of Fate on your top five. That's always been a favorite of mine as well. I would also grandfather in Totally Hot.

I love ONJ. She's looking pretty good for 60. I don't even want to admit how many times I saw 'Grease', 'Xanadu' and even 'Two of a Kind'

I remember going to Venice Beach just to look for the mural of the muses on the wall. I was so disappointed when I didn't find it. But I DID find the old theater that they turned into the club. It was off Hollywood in an alley.

I too dig on ONJ. "Make A Move On Me" and "A Little More Love" would have been in my top 5.

Love ONJ. If I could declare my same sex crush it would be her. Why? It's not physical, I can assure you. She's a survivor. She's an inspiration. She's forever young.
I was surprised when I liked THE WARRIORS. "Can you dig it!?"
Why yes, Cyrus, I believe I can!

ONJ is also the surprising answer to this question:
What single spent the longest time in Billboard's #1 position during the 80's?
ONJ's "Physical". 6 weeks in a row if my memory serves me.

I remember when the movie "Grease" came out and we were on vacation in Tampa, and we went to the Tyrone Square Mall to see the movie. The theater was so crowded that we had to sit in the front row, but it was well worth it at the end of the movie when ONJ came out in that black spandex. I was very young but wow, that was amazing. Completely off topic, I saw "Jaws" for the first time when I was 5 years old on vacation in Florida. I didn't swim for the rest of the vacation, thanks mom and dad, great idea...take a 5 year old to a movie about sharks while in Florida.

Did you know there's a remake of The Warriors in the making? True.
