Freak fest tonight at the Spears Lair
Stuck in the '80s co-host Sean Daly will be returning to the Spears Lair this evening. It'll be his first visit since the tragic party weekend about a month ago, and thankfully the cigar stench is finally starting to fade.
We're expecting at least one surprise guest host for the recording of our audio commentary of the 1978 horror classic -- quite possibly this very familiar person to the left. Who else will show up? I don't wanna even guess. (Hey, enough veggie tacos for everyone!)
Join us online about 9 p.m. through midnight on the blog and we'll read your questions and comments during breaks in the movie.

Relive the music, movies and culture of the greatest decade ever with Times online editor Steve Spears. A teen during the decade, Steve is obsessed with everything from Duran Duran to Journey, John Hughes to John Cusack, and parachute pants to Reaganomics.

Nicely done, Teddy Boy.
Posted by: Marissa | October 05, 2008 at 07:51 AM
Don't Fear the Reaper was the correct song, except it was the original BLUE OYSTER CULT VERSION.
Posted by: Teddy Boy | October 05, 2008 at 01:55 AM
I think I'll remove the lampshade from my head and call it a night.
Posted by: Marissa | October 05, 2008 at 01:04 AM
Wow! I haven't stayed up this late since watching STREETS OF FIRE a couple weeks ago.
Posted by: Marissa | October 05, 2008 at 12:59 AM
I'm thinking things aren't going QUITE as planned for this podcast! lol...
Posted by: John Hays | October 05, 2008 at 12:56 AM
I think we're alone now. There doesn't seem to be anyone a-rou-ound.
Posted by: Marissa | October 05, 2008 at 12:45 AM
that would be "now" not "mpw"
Posted by: Lori | October 05, 2008 at 12:29 AM
Me, too, on the desktop, but I'm not watching SNL.
I'm leaving you two kids alone mpw. Be responsible.
Posted by: Lori | October 05, 2008 at 12:28 AM
Hahaha, Other than politics, Weekend Update is the sole savior of SNL right now!
Posted by: John Hays | October 05, 2008 at 12:27 AM
"circling for 1/2 an hour "
Posted by: Marissa | October 05, 2008 at 12:26 AM
Lori,
Unfortunately I only have a desktop so I'm having to go back and forth between the room with my comp and my living room to watch SNL ;)
Posted by: John Hays | October 05, 2008 at 12:25 AM
So where were you two just now and what were you doing together? The morals of young people today!
Posted by: Lori | October 05, 2008 at 12:21 AM
John, the comments were on Sean's Gone Crabbin'
And I loved reading that SNL Halloween costume skit. Thanks for that. It's weird how you can just "hear" their voices while you are reading.
Posted by: Lori | October 05, 2008 at 12:20 AM
John, you betcha! Doggone it. Heck yeah it was good, by golly. *wink*
Posted by: Marissa | October 05, 2008 at 12:18 AM
Wow, SNL writing other than politics skits is horrible, but that Killers song was AWESOME!
Posted by: John Hays | October 05, 2008 at 12:16 AM
And there's no need to rub in the young factor.
Posted by: Lori | October 05, 2008 at 12:08 AM
It wasn't asking something, John. It was kind of like talkin' smack. (See NFL results from last Sunday.)
Posted by: Lori | October 05, 2008 at 12:07 AM
Lori,
We young single people keep kinda busy, must've missed where you asked me something! ;)
Posted by: John Hays | October 05, 2008 at 12:05 AM
This old person is hittin' the sack, too. Homecoming teenagers have just checked in, so I am officially off duty.
Posted by: Lori | October 05, 2008 at 12:02 AM
That's going to do it for me too.
Play nice, and don't say nasty things about me when I'm gone.
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | October 04, 2008 at 11:59 PM
Has anyone considered that these hooligans might never return to the blogs? Similar to the last night at the Spears lair: they showed up drunk at halftime and then disappeared for the night.
Posted by: Lori | October 04, 2008 at 11:58 PM
Miguel, it was Steve who brought ELI STONE to my attention. http://blogs.tampabay.com/80s/2008/02/you-gotta-have.html
Posted by: Marissa | October 04, 2008 at 11:54 PM
Jeff, did you notice we never heard any response last week from John Hays?
Just sayin'.
Posted by: Lori | October 04, 2008 at 11:52 PM
All right. I think it`s time to leave you guys now. I don´t think i helped the podcast in any way, which is not a surprise, hahaha.
Enjoy the rest of the movie Steve,Sean and Stephanie. The final act is very good.
And to all my fellow 80s freaks, good night it was nice chating with you.
Posted by: Miguel | October 04, 2008 at 11:52 PM
Miguel,
Eli Stone is a little "chicky" for my tastes.
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | October 04, 2008 at 11:51 PM
Too busy watching the SNL debate skit!
Posted by: John Hays | October 04, 2008 at 11:49 PM
FANTASTIC show, Miguel.
Posted by: Marissa | October 04, 2008 at 11:46 PM
Does anybody watch Eli Stone? It`s on now,in a different channel.I never watched it,but i heard good reviews about it.
Posted by: Miguel | October 04, 2008 at 11:45 PM
I just checked the cable guide, and the TV movie is called "The Hollywood`s Mom Mystery". It`s from 2004
Posted by: Miguel | October 04, 2008 at 11:42 PM
Hey, it's after 10pm. I can't be held accountable for sexual references in my comments.
Posted by: Marissa | October 04, 2008 at 11:40 PM
Is it "Satisfaction" ?
Posted by: Marissa | October 04, 2008 at 11:39 PM
'Riss,
I had a "batteries" reference in my original comment, but I deleted it lest I go too far.
Why do I even worry?
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | October 04, 2008 at 11:38 PM
I was zapping here and i found this TV movie probably, with Justine Bateman. Her acting skills don´t look great.No,no.
Posted by: Miguel | October 04, 2008 at 11:37 PM
Sherrie,
Something like posting lame double-entendres on the Internet?
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | October 04, 2008 at 11:37 PM
Even super women need a reprieve, Jeff. The Energizer Bunny feature isn't a requirement (although the batteries might be)
Posted by: Marissa | October 04, 2008 at 11:36 PM
Hey,
Why aren't we hearing anything from Steph?
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | October 04, 2008 at 11:35 PM
Jeff, I was a Sunday School teacher for 3 or 4 years. My favorite part of it was that in the unlikely event that I snap someday and do something scandalous and newsworthy, I'd be referred to as "former Sunday School teacher Sherrie..." So I've got that going for me, which is nice. :)
Posted by: Sherrie | October 04, 2008 at 11:34 PM
John,
"Thier goals?"
I have this vision of the two of them sitting in the front row of a Tony Robbins seminar.
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | October 04, 2008 at 11:33 PM
'Riss,
You're forgetting that Michael never stops.
Never.
Ever.
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | October 04, 2008 at 11:31 PM
My apologies to Sean for not posting anything in his blog, but i had a couple of drinks in my night out,so i would probably get dizzy if i jumped from blog to blog.
Posted by: Miguel | October 04, 2008 at 11:30 PM
and i thought the andy taylor show was long. it was great, but long. after listening to the podcast, i bought his book. read it in 1 day, bought the powerstation and arcadia cds, and been on a duran tear. i must've listened to 5 or so of their cds.
Posted by: CHAD | October 04, 2008 at 11:30 PM
I think both Jason and Michael had no problem killing anyone who got in the way of their goals.
Posted by: John Hays | October 04, 2008 at 11:30 PM
So between wiseazz comments, I'm preparing material for tomorrow's Sunday School class.
Talk about two trains of thought hurtling towards a collision!
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | October 04, 2008 at 11:29 PM
Michael Myers moved at one speed. I'm pretty certain he'd be pretty boring in the sack ... I mean, if you leaned toward homicidal maniacs.
Posted by: Marissa | October 04, 2008 at 11:29 PM
re: Michael Myers vs. Jason
Didn't Jason reserve his murderous rage for hedonistic teenyboppers? Since MM couldn't get laid in a female penintentiary with a fist full of pardons, I figure Jason would cut him some slack.
Posted by: Jeff in Cuba | October 04, 2008 at 11:27 PM
I think I killed Sean's blog lol...
Yeah I think this podcast is going to run the full length because they said you can play it alongside the film, although are they pausing to read stuff? Might be even longer.
Posted by: John Hays | October 04, 2008 at 11:26 PM
its a crcle, jeff. everything leads back to the 80s.
Posted by: CHAD | October 04, 2008 at 11:26 PM
Oh! And i`m having coffee right now!
