What the fashionable Commie-fighters wear
A new dispatch from the fence-line at Guantanamo Bay and Jeff in Cuba. Take it away, Commander:
This weekend was the annual GTMO Fall Festival. It's a big fundraiser and also a chance to get a sneak peek at all the kids' Halloween costumes. And even though no parental influence was applied, my sixth-grader -- "Daisy in Cuba" -- chose an '80s motif for her 2008 outfit.
I thought I'd share a photo so you can see how kids today interpret our favorite decade. It's a fairly accurate reproduction. In fact, it's a little TOO accurate.
It's more than a little off-putting to see your daughter in the same trappings as the objects of your own adolescent desires.

Jeff, Daisy couldn't be any cuter. My older teen went to a Dress 80's birthday party last summer in leggings, big bright shirt with big belt, with the added attraction of MUCH blue eyeshadow. Then a special theme day during homecoming week this fall sent her to school in Jazzercize gear. Ugh; enough, already!

she's got the '80s out fit down pat (who knew?) - all cut & torn up, and we'll add some makeup, a Viola!

80s fashion is back. I saw a girl wearing high heels and leg warmers today. I miss the time when Lacoste shirts were more affordable.

I'm shocked that 80s fashions are already making a comeback. I have to laugh as I walk around the mall to see young girls rockin' the look Daisy is wearing. Viva 1980s!!
