Another Karate Kid? Yes, sensei!

Jaden_smith_2 Will the madness never end? Here we go again: A remake of The Karate Kid is reportedly in the works, with Will Smith's 10-year-old son Jaden playing the lead role.

Firstshowing.net reports that "Columbia presidents Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach have been trying to find a way to bring back the series and apparently this it." Jerry Weintraub, the producer of the original 1984 flick, could be on tap to produce again, says Firstshowing, but other Web rumors say that Will Smith may take over that role.

The story line would be the same, and Jaden is already busy with martial arts lessons, say multiple sources.

With Pat "Mr. Miyagi" Morita's passing in 2005, we nominate Ralph Macchio, who clearly could use the work, to assume the role of karate master. Here's a list of great dialogue to start practicing on, Ralph.

TOP 5 MR. MIYAGI LINES FROM THE KARATE KID:

5. "Walk on road ... Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later ... squish."

4. "What'sa matter, you some kind of girl or something?"

3. "Not bonsai, BANZAI!"

2. "Wax on ... wax off. Wax on ... wax off."

1. "Man who catch fly with chopstick accomplish anything."

Karate Kid? sensei!I congratulate you mate!

Karen

10 year old boy will be the Karate Kid. Who's he going to date? The cute pigtailed girl across the aisle from him at school? No basis for conflict there. Maybe in another 6 years or so but for now this is a horrible idea.

I hope this isn't true. Why does Hollywood have to remake everything. This movie should be left alone. It was a great flick. 2nd one wasn't bad. 3rd one sucked. 4th one wasn't good either, even though Oscar winner may have looked the best she has ever looked.

If they are going to remake movies, why don't they remake movies that didn't quite work the first around and try to make them better. Don't mess around with movies that worked well the first time. A prime example of this is The Wicker Man. I loved the original. Great spooky movie. The remake was awful beyond belief. And they didn't do the erotic dance in the remake?! Why bother if you are not going to put in that scene?! It is all because of the dreaded PG-13 rating that studio execs love. I do miss the old Neil Labute. Even though I enjoyed his latest with Samuel Jackson, he lost some bite with his recent flicks.

If there was any drop of creativity left in Hollywood, they would cast Ralph Macchio AGAIN as the karate kid! How cool would that be, make absolutely no acknowledgment to his age (he's 47, just had a birthday last week!)
