Do we really need another 'Terminator'?

Terminator_salvation Everyone knows Hollywood is fresh out of ideas. But another installment of The Terminator? Really?

Yes, Christian Bale, who seemingly does no wrong on the big screen, is now "John Connor" in Terminator 4 (a.k.a. Terminator: Salvation, a.k.a. Terminator: Just Remember You Used to Like This Series When Arnold Played The Lead).

Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, humanity is at war with the computer network Skynet. (Anyone else worried that this is just 10 years away? I call it the "Space: 1999 Syndrome.") The flick is due in theaters in summer 2009.

Take deep breaths, then click here to see the trailer for Terminator: Salvation on the web.

(By the way, whenever I see Christian Bale onscreen, I'm amazed he played the small boy lead character in 1987's Empire of The Sun. Relive the magic.)

I just hoped this one is way better than the stupid third Terminator movie.

IF you like Christian Bale, check out The Machinist. He went down to about 90 pounds for that role.

The only affection I have for T3 is it sounded AWESOME on my home theatre system... on of the first movies we owned that had DTS. We'd make the whole building shake when we put it on (had to warn the neighbors. It encouraged the purchase of at least three surround sound systems in our building. Our German neighbors loved us after that one.
But seriously how many sequels do we need? I wish they would come up with some original ideas.

Christian Bale is a great actor,so I´ll be expecting this movie. This new generation of actors(actors around my age) have lots of talent. From Bale to Tobey Maguire, from Joaquin Phoenix to Jake Gyllenhaal (I´m not adding Shia LaBeouf yet.He still has a lot to prove). Good generation to try to beat Cusack,Downey Jr.,Spader(I`m not adding Cruise yet,he still has a lot to prove.Haha!).

I dunno! Looks pretty good...gritty, like the first one. No?

To me, the series ended with Terminator 2. An open, dark road with no knowing the future.

Then "Terminator: But what if...?" came out (AKA Terminator 3). THAT was a joke even if people flocked to see it. No one had problems, it seemed, that the movie swore off the trademarks of the past Terminator movies... Just as long as Ah-nuld played the lead, everything was hunky dory.

Not quite. No James Cameron and the vision of the entire Terminator concept seemed lost. Was the storyline ok? Yeah (I only saw the movie once, and I know Cameron actually dug where it went) but I thought the presentation sucked.

Now you have McG directing and you have a body builder playing an earlier version of the Terminator? I thought those were all fake skins anyway, did they have to cast someone who looks like a young Ah-nuld?

You know, I've always thought this was the direction they should have gone with the first sequel. Supposedly, the time machine was destroyed in the first movie after the Terminator and Kyle got through. So how come Terminators keep popping up in the later installments?

Also, the third movie has to basically undo the plot of the second movie, which had defused the whole threat.

They should have just skipped ahead to the future in the first place. If they wanted to re-sign Linda Hamilton for that movie, they could have had her come back as a Terminator specially designed to get John Connor's goat.

Not that I dwell on this or anything.

Hmmmm,

My computer is telling me not to pay attention to the movie about the evil computer network...

*sigh* Sure. Why not! IF I see this movie it'll be due to the Man-cub's desire to see it. Christian Bale isn't my cup of tea, but I hear the other chicks dig him.
