Oh-oh here they come ... to court!
In one of the more bizarre '80s-related news items of the week, pop-soul singers Daryl Hall & John Oates are suing their music publisher for not protecting their rights to 1982's Maneater.
The lawsuit says Hall & Oates discovered in 2007 that another songwriter had used their hit song in a recording in 2006. The suit against Warner/Chappell Music Inc. seeks "unspecified money damages and want to terminate their agreement with Warner/Chappell," according to the Associated Press.
Really? Maneater? I mean, if there was ever a Hall & Oates hit to sort of let go of, it's probably that one. It's meandering, borderline-annoying and largely forgettable some 26 years later. That being said, I say sue the pants off any contemporary pop bozo who dares touch the work of the mighty Hall & Oates.
TOP 5 HALL & OATES HITS OF THE 80s:

3. I CAN'T GO FOR THAT (1981): "You got the body, now you want my soul." [Video]
2. KISS ON MY LIST (1981): "I'm just better off not listening to friends' advice." [Video]

Daryl Hall said (on the Adam Carolla Radio Show) the "Maneater" he was referring to in the song was Kelly LeBrock.

How about Did It In A Minute- "If two can be one, who is the one two becomes?" Great line.
Two of top 3 H&O songs bookend the 80s with
1980-Wait For Me-"Love is what it does and ours is doing nothing"
&
1989-So Close-"She sits in some club, where the long shadows fall, Drops a coin in the jukebox, not the phone on the wall"

I Can't Go For That was another big one. Rich Girl was also moderate (but is a 70s hit) which has no interest here ;)

I have to agree with Jose - Maneater was Hall & Oates' biggest hit outside of the US, and Private Eyes. Out Of Touch (so-so) and You Make My Dreams (even less)...
Funny innit?

Oates is married to a girl from Kankakee.

Worst Hall & Oates song? Their cover of You've Lost That Lovin Feelin!

I saw them a few years ago too and they were great in concert. Definitely catch them in concert if you get a chance. I've always been a big fan of the song Family Man and One on One.

For a while there in the '80s, every song they put out was a hit, and they did it without ever really repeating themselves or relying on a formula. True pop artists!

Overseas, Maneater was their biggest success. Here in Spain, for example, it was their only hit, but it's still being played daily on radio...

Not a bad list, Spearsy. I'd doink "Maneater" outta there, and slide "You Make My Dreams" into the No. 3 slot. But still, pretty good.
Have we done a show on them yet? If we haven't, we should. I'm a major fan. In fact, if I had the ability to manufacture facial hair, I'd totally grow an Oatesian 'stache.

Daryl and John are very charitable dudes, who along with Cyndi Lauper, Rob & Marisol Thomas, John Mayer and Pat Monahan hold a festive, fund raising Christmas party every year for the terminally ill kids at Blythedale Children's Hospital in Westchester, New York. I hope they get every penny they sue for, as a lot of it will go for a very good cause.

During their heyday I wasn't much into Hall & Oats, but after seeing them in concert a couple of years ago I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't even realize how many songs of theirs I actually knew. If they are ever around I recommend seeing them.
