This scene was filmed in Florida today
Here in Stuck in the '80s land, we're not usually ones to whine about the weather. But today? Oh today, we're making an exception. The weather websites tell us it's in the 40s here, which is a sure sign around here that the world is about to end.
See, when you move to Florida (or by the grace of a higher power -- John Hughes perhaps -- were born here like myself), you throw away all hats, gloves, boots, parkas, hockey masks, ice skates and whatever other strange paraphernalia those snow bunnies up North keep stuffed in their closet all year.
As a result, the one or two times a year the temperature goes below 45 here, Floridians meet the doom and gloom (actually it's a bright sunny day out there) with ... wind-breakers. Yes, a nylon coat that may or may not have a liner inside.
How do we get by? By watching movies that remind of us better days.
TOP FIVE '80s FLICKS TO WATCH ON A SUB-ARCTIC DAY:
5. HOT PURSUIT (1987): Yes, the long-forgotten John Cusack -- dare I say classic? Probably not. But we do love his girlfriend Wendy Gazelle.
4. CLUB PARADISE (1986): Robin Williams has more body hair than me, meaning either of us would be the favorite to win in TV's Survivor: Wasilla, Alaska.
3. RUNNING SCARED (1986): Just the scenes from Key West featuring Sweet Freedom by Michael McDonald.
2. WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S (1989): Love the scene where the roofing tar melts onto the feet of Andrew McCarthy.
1. THE FLAMINGO KID (1984): More articificial sweat used in this movie since Lawrence of Arabia.

well, three out of five ain't too shabby. i own the top three movies, all classics in my humble opinion, although i haven't watched running scared since i bought it. in fact, i don't think i even watched it after i bought it. hey, it was $5.50.

I love Flamingo Kid and Running Scared, but I can do without the other three. Spearsy, It's going to be 44º in the Chicago area today (yesterday it got as low as the mid 20's). It's kind of frightening when Tampa Bay is as cold as Chicago.

With the wind chill, it was SEVENTEEN DEGREES yesterday here in Detroit. Spears, you are such a weenie.

Riss,
Trust me, the tropics can quickly turn even a hardened Rocky Mountain snow monster like myself into a full-up Weather Wimp.
It got down to 70 last night, and this morning the kids were bundling up for the half-block walk to the bus stop.
Everyone's talking about the "cold snap" and how it might not get up to 90 today. Brrrrrrrr.

40 degrees and I would be running around in my man thong. It was in the low 20's in the artic up here and we were happy it wasn't colder. If this keeps up I am personally going to go a buy a pallet load of AquaNet and just spray the cans into the air and put a hole in the ozone over my house. Bring on global warming, baby.

I don`t really know how much 40s is,but i`m going to say it`s perhaps less than 20ºC,right? Here in Lisbon it is happening the same.An incredibly cold wind. They say our weather is close to the Californian one,but i`m seeing on the news extensive fires in California(my sympathy by the way to the people suffering there with the loss of their homes),and here is COLD!
I have to watch Hot Pusuit.I watched almost every Cusack movie, but not this one.On related news i finally watched for the first time "Footloose" (liked it,although the story seems tooooo unbelievable. Is it really possible a small town forbid people from dancing or was it just pure fantasy?) and "Flashdance" ( hated it.What an horrible peace of crap.Sorry if you liked it but how come was that a smash hit?)

Unrelated topic: Spearsy, have you seen Rolling Stone's list of the top 100 singers of all time? Not a lot of love for 80's artists (who are not named Michael Jackson, Prince or Bruce Springsteen). I was disgusted. Steve Perry came in at #76. he ranked below Kurt Cobain, Lou Reed, Axl Rose and Thom Yorke of Radiohead. Annie Lennox (#93) came in behind Tom Waits, Patti Smith and Willie Nelson. My biggest beef, how the heck did Bob Dylan make the top ten. Great songwriter, yes, great singer, hell no. Another interesting one, Johnny Cash at #21 (ahead of Michael Jackson & Prince). Great singer? I love Johnny, but he was not a great singer.

I will never understand the attraction of Kurt Cobain and Axl Rose. Both on my list of highly overrated con artists.

Talking about Rolling Stone.Remember the list they made about the 100 greatest albums of the 80s? It`s an old list. Here`s the top 10:
10-Tracy Chapman-Tracy Chapman(1988)
9-Shoot Out The Lights-Richard & Linda Thompson(1982)
8-Murmur-REM (1983)
7-Thriller-Michael Jackson(1982)
6-Born In The USA-Bruce Springsteen(1984)
5-Graceland-Paul Simon(1986)
4-Remain In Light-Talking Heads(1980)
3-The Joshua Tree-U2(1987)
2-Purple Rain-Prince(1984)
1-London Calling-The Clash(1979)

It`s time to make your London Calling podcast Spears,on the ultimate 80s albums issue. After Thriller,Synchronicity,Invisible Touch(which didn`t make the top 100 list)let`s talk about the british masters.

i've seen the list myself, and it's just as bad as their greatest guitarists of all time one. although, the list is the top singers in the rock n roll era, not the best of all time. i know aretha has a good voice, but top place her ahead of elvis. i know some from our generation might scoff at the thought of elvis, but this man had an incredible gift for a voice. there's no way anyone should be ahead of the king. if they were going on purely one's voice, there were plenty of people they forgot. no paul stanley, joe elliot, klaus meine, brad delp, lou gramm, i could go on and on.

I was going to bring up the list and almost choked when I saw Aretha at #1. Talk about somebody living in the past. Mrs. Sparky and I went to see her about 5 years ago and the woman is a crock. She sang all of about 3 songs and the whole time she complained about the air conditioning in the venue. She sang two songs left the stage, came back to complain and sang another and left. Then she sent her man on stage to complain and then that was it show over. And no we didn't get a refund because we were told she did perform. I will never again shell out my dinero to see that has been diva.

The most glaring 80s omissions are Ann Wilson of Heart, and Peter Gabriel.

Spearsy, I am so with you on Kurt Cobain and Axl Rose. I want to slap people who say Cobain was a genius. Yeah, it takes a real genius to throw his life away. Axl, he's just a moron.

It's only that cold a couple of times a year? I need to move to florida!lol I would be in heaven. :o)

Cuba Weather Update:
Everyone here is freaking out because it's so cold. I just got a call asking if football practice was going to be cancelled.
I think I'll go ahead and hold practice, since it's 82 outside (although to be fair, with the wind chill, it's more like 75).

It's now a barely tolerable 62 degrees here at 5:30 p.m. in St. Petersburg. People are bundling up for the short walk to their cars.
Low tonight of 49 degrees. And I still refuse to turn on the heat at the Spears Lair!

Don`t mess with Cobain,people!
Bassnote,my friend i think you`ll have to buy a plain ticket to Lisbon and slap me,because Kurt Cobain was,if not a genius,a brilliant artist!About what genious can throw is life away. That`s a complex issue, lot`s of great artists killed themselves or lost their lives tragically, that doesn`t mean they weren`t great in their art form.
I agree with you on Axl thow.A moron indeed.
