What's New Year's Day without ...

Could U2's New Year's Day be the ultimate '80s song for today? Tell me your favorites. Here are a couple that come to mind.

SAME OLD LANG SYNE (Dan Fogelberg): It still sounds like a '70s song, doesn't it? (Karaoke version)

1999 (Prince): Weren't you glad we never had to hear this again after New Year's Day 2000? (Video)

CELEBRATE (Kool and the Gang): Some people say this ought to be considered one of the worst songs of the '80s. Hey, that's not Kool. (Video)

START ME UP (Rolling Stones): Safe to say that the Stones had a better '80s career than The Who or The Kinks? (Video)

PARTY OUT OF BOUNDS (the B-52's): Why this song gets no love is beyond me. (Live performance)

I was at a bar in December of 1998 and I put in 5 dollars in a juke box to hear "1999" I thought I was really original playing that song, one of the bar workers came up and immediately changed the song and his coworkers were quite happy and started clapping. I of course was pissed because I paid 5 dollars for like 5 songs and I really wanted to hear that song. I went up to the bartender and demanded they play the song or return my money. I look back on this and it was sort of stupid but the bartender was just sort of blowing me off until he finally realized I would not shut up about it and gave me my money back. I was somewhat satisified but still wanted to hear the song. Hey, sorry you are working in a bar that you had to hear that song 5 million times, I am sure people in Florida bars have to hear Jimmy Buffet more than they ever want to again in their lives.
