The Wolverines are back: 'Red Dawn' remake announces new cast
Looks like the Wolverines are ready to defend the ol' red, white and blue again. The studio behind the remake of 1984's Red Dawn has announced three casting decisions for the new film.
Chris Hemsworth (Home and Away) will take over the lead role of "Jed Eckert" (Patrick Swayze's old role) as the older brother and leader of the teenaged insurgents. Josh Peck (The Wackness, Drillbit Taylor) will play "Matt Eckert" (Charlie Sheen's role), the younger brother. Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) will play "Toni" (Jennifer Grey).
Entertainment Weekly has a few scoops on differences between the remake and the original flick. This time around, the town is invaded by Russians and Chinese soldiers (instead of Cubans). And Toni will have the hots for Jed, who's a Marine back home on temporary leave this time around. (I never did really know what Swayze's character was up to as the first movie begins. Those Commies were shooting up teachers before we could work through the details.)
I like the casting decisions so far. Like the original movie, all the actors are flying below the radar right now in Hollywood. Will their careers skyrocket after the new Red Dawn? We'll find out after Sept. 24, 2010, the planned release date.

Okay heres my only complaint so far. The idea of making Jed a marine home on leave really pisses me off! I mean correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't an important aspect of the story that Jed was just as in over his head as the other kids, but he stepped up and led them anyway? In the original, the only thing he really had on any of them was a couple of years, and being the hometown football hero. Thats it. Thats the point. That a countries only real true defense is its young citizens who are willing to defend it when all else fails. Now no doubt hollywood's going to cop out and make Jed some kind of military badass. Totally destroys the point if you ask me. I dont know, am I being nit picky here? Oh and another thing, what about Powers Booth's character? Didn't the original kind of drive that very point home when he got waisted?

URgh, This looks like a winner. Al-quada drops into a rural mountain town and takes over?
Well, '80s fans, we're doing our own remake of Red Dawn. As a matter of fact, this time, we're invading THEM!
...25 years ago, the USSR, Nicaragua, and Cuba invaded the United States of America. Time for some Payback...This summer...we invade Cuba!
Red blooded, patriotic Americans everywhere....Rubix Cubed announces it's "Red Dawn" tour.
For one week in July, Rubix Cubed (the offical house band of Stuck in the '80s) will drop into Cuba, and disrupt the locals, while boosting the moral and fighting strength of our resistance fighters at Gitmo....

Remakes don't bother me, for if they aren't any good then I will always rewatch the original. Myself, I don't think you can top the cast in alot of the originals but I am willing to watch them and see what happens!

It's mostly the lack of intellegence of the major studio heads whose only concern is making the big bucks any way they can.

Another indication of the lack of talent in hollywood.

I never really bought the whole "Cuban" invasion thing. At the height of the Cold War, I have every confidence that Reagan would have dropped the Big Daddy right in the middle of dowtown Havanna. Today, we'd have an extra "Key" in South Florida.

What's next? Major League? Wargames? Goonies?

GRRR! URGE TO KILL RISING!
I am so sick and tired of Hollywood assraping all the movies of my youth. When does it end? When do they stop crapping on all the good stuff? No doubt they're completely out of original ideas, as all the asinine reality and game shows can attest to.
Here's an idea for a reality game show: Take all the idiots in charge of this project, lock them in a room with a starving Komodo dragon, and let the fun begin.

I haven't seen Red Dawn in such a long time, so it will be like watching a brand new movie all over again.

Amen, Brother Ron. I think Rowan's post is in the running for best of 2009 as well.

Scanning the cast... let's see, let's see...
No LeBeouf, we're safe.

Why do they have to mess with perfection? Why can't they pick a lesser classic like say...Gone with the Wind or maybe Casablanca or something like that.
