Will Johnny Depp play Michael Jackson in a new bio-pic?
The latest rumor sweeping Hollywood and the Internet is that Johnny Depp will play the role of the late Michael Jackson in a new bio-pic being rushing into production.
Depp reportedly said in 2008 that he wanted to play the role of Jackson, according to one blog. His remark came in reaction to rumors that he based his portrayal of Willy Wonka on Jackson.
“A few people have mentioned it, and it kind of took me by surprise. I really didn’t expect that, Michael Jackson was not a sort of ingredient or inspiration for the character at all,” Depp said at the time. But he suggested he'd still like to tackle that role, saying, "There is still time to play him.”
However, Sky News in Britain reports today that Depp has now said he doesn't want the role. In London to promote his new Public Enemies movies, "the Hollywood star said he did not think Jacko 'would want him to' don the famous white glove and military jacket."

E-mail Steve Spears:

That being said, I too am understanding of Depp's decision though I would like to see how well Depp does if he does take on MJ's role.
If I was in his position, I'd take the role because he is an actor, correct? All he has to do is that... what he is getting paid to do because these actors have no problem playing murderers and whores. Nothing against Depp; I think he's amazing as an actor.

@ Ellen:
First off you completely took that quote out of context.
What I meant was that I don't care much about his life because it's none of my business. I was not in that jury, I wasn't in the courtroom so I am not sure what could have been my impression. I can't judge anyone be it his fans, mj himself or the people that made the decision of letting mj go.
Be it Michael or not I don't care simply because I know how the media can be. I had a friend who had his face plastered all over newspapers one year because of 'allegations' that he molested a boy as well and lost all his connections and his 4 jobs. I knew this person and I felt bad because I KNOW it wasn't true but everyone was treating him like he was a pariah. I'm not using this as an excuse for Mj because I did not know him but I'm not saying that I worship him in any way.
All I'm saying is that some of the victims may have done it for the money. And I do believe that that was the case for at least one of them.
Maybe Michael did do it.
One thing that people hate admitting is that we don't know. And that's as much as I could say.
And if you think that I sound like one of the most self centered, selfish individuals then you really need to get out more. Though I'm sorry to hear that.
I see reality just fine, thank you for the suggestion though. Talk to me about other children being victimized, about poverty, about this government and cult-like followings of it, and we'll have a real conversation so THEN you can make a real opinion of me rather than some messed up psychos you see on the news. This 'case' of MJ's and his accusations is nothing but a circus to me, a media handled case of a celebrity. It was always about him and not about the children. I never said once that I was a Michael fan, nonetheless a worshiper of Michael Jackson or his music.
What the jurors decisions were was up to them, lots of injustice happens in these courts, I'd rather fight that then go on about something that no one knows about.
Those parents were the messed up ones, who the hell lets their kids sleep over his house? That's the question we should've asked.

I took a HUGE dump in memory of "da king of po(o)p"... Only in America can a POS like M. Jackson get a recoginized placement in the world by raping kids and get away with it...
Someone should have shot that POS long ago!

Melissa - do you really not care if Michael Jackson molested children? That is what you are saying. Your comment "Even if that was the case or not, I could care less about what MJ did in his life." means that. You are one of the blind brainwashed fans. People like you on the jury were the reason for the not guilty verdict. Ignore the evidence - just keep the music coming. You sound like one of the most self centered, selfish individuals that I have ever heard about. You need to grow up past hero worship and see reality.

As much as I like Depp I definitely respect that he declined this role. I really feel like if a movie were to be made about Jackson it should not star a white actor- how would Depp play Jackson before his skin changed color. And for the people who say that Jackson should be played by two people like Jamie Foxx or Johnny Depp, I think that would disrespect Jackson, showing he was "two different people" Also I think they should only make a film about one half of his life, or they should wait many years to make a movie since it would be a highly controversial movie no matter how it is made.
PS: I am not a fan of Jackson's and I know some but not everything about of his life i am just speaking as a current youth- so please don't rip me a new one

I agree with Pari, plus just because things might indicate that MJ might have been a child molester doesn't mean that he really was. And who's trying to justify child molestation charges with his music?
Gavin Arvizo's mother was a mental case, not that it gives MJ an excuse... I wouldn't be surprised if it was all for money.
Even if that was the case or not, I could care less about what MJ did in his life. Gavin Arvizo's parents are stupid to let the kid sleep in MJ's room, of course she gives the OK THEN say it's bad. Whatever.

MJ fans are pathetic. Ignore everything that shows he was a child abuser and molester for what? Mediocre music for the past decade? I love the way some of you justify what he did. No - I will not "stfu" about this. That is how MJ got away with his abuse. That and with the help of the pathetic fans.

oh and johnnydepp=perfection
Posted by: pari | July 02, 2009 at 04:37 PM
bottom line-no one will ever kno if he is guilty of child abuse or not because noone was in the room with him so plz STFU about it. and if he did do it well then hes going to get it in the afterlife. i just dont understand why ppl who dont like him have to run their mouths about it all day long.NOt everyone shares your opinion so deal with it and get a life.

I'm pretty sure that if Depp were to play Michael Jackson, they wouldn't try to portray his character as a child molester. All the links I've clicked on provided in a lot of your comments are dumb. I understand people feel like people shouldn't mourn MJ and that his fans are all blinded by his music videos but most of the blogs are written by a bunch of people that have nothing better to do than trash mouth. Michael Jackson is dead, now whatever that jury decided is done.
And even if the jurors let him go and he was guilty then why not be mad at the system too?
It doesn't seem fishy to me that MJ paid a grand amount of money to the first boy that accused him because it could go both ways: He paid them to make them drop the charges that he was innocent of OR the paid him to silence them. BUT WHY would he do this publicly if it would make him look bad?
Why would anyone.
I am not sure if he's guilty or not guilty but I would never smear his name any more than it already is.
All the people that are saying that MJs fans are sick, take a very good look at yourself and see if you can be the one to pass judgment on someone you never even knew.
Before I get asked this; no, I didn't mean anything religious by anything I've written.

John - you are wrong. The jurors admitted they thought he was guilty but let him go just because he was Michael Jackson. Their own words in television interviews. What do you think about that? People like you let a molester go because they were fans. No one is willing to tell me what they think of that.

Corrine in no way did he child abuse you are very wrong there. you are an idiot for beliving what you read. people did that to get money out of him sick people like that. then he went bankrupt all he was doing was making a place for kids to go and then they took it away from Mj and from the kids.
Posted by: John | July 01, 2009 at 09:58 PM
Nikki - two words: spell check. I would hope Depp would decline playing MJ in a movie - who would want to play a child abuser? I would hope he would have enough brains to decline this role. MJ was a has been. His past glory does not make up for his recent actions.

Johnny Depp would play an EXCELLENT Michael Jackson. It would be a tribute and an honor. I would love to see it.

Hmm... this sounds almost identical to the the "Johnny Depp is going to play Gypsy Rose Lee" rumor that was floating around a couple of years ago.

If Tim Burton signed on, I'm betting the Jackson family would step in with an injunction faster than Depp can moonwalk across the Black Pearl.
Posted by: Spears | June 30, 2009 at 10:11 AM
If this is true, then Tim Burton needs to sign on to Direct/Produce the movie. JD + TB = Gold!
