5 winners, 5 losers from Jackson's memorial
Corey Feldman is seriously reconsidering his life's direction today after his M.J. impersonation at Tuesday's public memorial for Michael Jackson. But he's not the only celebrity who busted -- or even benefited -- from the ultra-hot world spotlight that afternoon.
TOP 5 BOUNCES:
1. JERMAINE JACKSON: The only Jackson brother to perform, he dazzled the crowd with his rendition of Smile, holding himself together perfectly until the final verse. Look for his hibernating solo career to get some fresh looks in the aftermath.
2. BROOKE SHIELDS: Ever since Tom Cruise attacked her for using prescription drugs to battle postpartum depression, Shields has seen a steady increase of public support. You bet folks were grabbing tissue as she struggled to hold her composure while speaking of her longtime friendship with Michael.
3. JENNIFER HUDSON: Forget the hokeyness of hearing Jackson’s spoken lyrics at the end of Hudson’s anthemic rendition of Will You Be There. After the 2008 murders of her mother and brother, the American Idol angel and Oscar winner -- baby bump showing -- is having a much better 2009.
4. LIONEL RICHIE: Just two days off an unexpected reunion with his Commodores bandmates in New Orleans, Richie took the stage in L.A. and delivered a classic, gospel take on his old hit Jesus Is Love.
5. SHAHEEN JAFARGHOLI/JUDITH HILL: Two names you probably hadn’t heard before, but you will now. Jarafgholi, 12, was a contestant on Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year. He won a standing ovation Tuesday for his take on Who’s Lovin You? (And he got his picture taken with Lionel Richie, above.) Hill was the “mystery singer” who led performers during We Are the World and Heal the World. The Pasadena, Calif., vocalist was to be a backup singer for Jackson’s shows this summer, according to Rolling Stone.
TOP 5 BUSTS:
1. MARIAH CAREY: It’s not that her duet of I’ll Be There
with Trey Lorenz wasn’t perfect — it wasn’t and that’s something she
admitted Wednesday on Twitter. But we bet there’s no apology coming for
her neckline-plunging gown that wasn’t exactly funeral friendly.
Mariah, it’s a memorial; not a music video.
2. DIANA ROSS: The person who has always been credited (deserved or not) for “discovering Michael” should have been there in the front row. “I have decided to pause and be silent,” Ross said in a statement. “This feels right for me.” It feels wrong to us.
3. QUINCY JONES: The producer behind Off the Wall and Thriller also skipped the memorial. “I won’t go to any more funerals as long as I live,” Jones said after Jackson’s death. Okay, Mr. Jones. Let’s hope your friends feel differently.
4. USHER: The neo-soul singer’s performance of Gone Too Soon
took a turn for the worse when he started singing directly to Jackson’s
casket. And the pause at the end to stifle a sob, followed by a group
hug with the Jackson family? Even Hollywood wouldn’t buy that scripted
ending.
5. COREY FELDMAN: The '80s teen star/reality show reject just tried TOO hard to fit in, wearing a full-on M.J. wardrobe including fedora, dark shades and military-style jacket. We bet he had to get his ticket through the lottery.

Michael Jackson should have received a far better memorial than the one at Staples. All the people that Micheal often spoke of as his true friends, whom he loved, obviously didn't feel the same about him (as they didn't even honor him enough to show up). Can someone explain to me why in the spoken part of "Will You Be There" (Hudson's rendition), that the voice says "pains"with an "s" when the live and video versions clearly says "pain"with no "s"? I am asking because I am wondering if it was actually Michael Jackson's voice or someone impersonating him? Michael was a perfectionist and am sure he would never have allowed a recorded version of any of his work be made public with an error in it. I love Michael Jackson and believe he is dancing on clouds, singing throughout heaven with angels as his backups. I would also like to know why his parents didn't shed a tear at his memorial or at any other time during the coverage of their son's death? Also why were there no tears in Paris's eyes during her speech about her father? If anyone knows the answers to any of these questions or have any comments, please post them here for me. Thanks, MJ Fan Forever

Ok somebody needs to say something nice here I guess. The best part of MJ was his career in the 80's and he was a huge part of defining the 80s as the 80s were in defining his "star". I defend Corey's outfit because he was one of MJ's best friends as a kid and was often seen doing the dress alike thing back in the day. I love making fun of the two Corey's but I think this time this was his own personal tribute to his good friend.

I was just bummed that my soap opera wasn't on because of this spectacle.

I hear child molesters die every day.

It is usually time for a party when a child molester dies.

It should always be a party when child molesters die.

I think Quincy Jones and Diana Ross not attending was fine. Some people don't want to show their grief to the world. Not attending someone's memorial service doesn't mean you don't love them or miss them. Maybe some of his friends thought it was too much of a spectacle.

It was still an awesome service.

Wow, what a cheesy memorial. I was thankful that I DIDN'T see Diana Ross, or that other hag Liz Taylor. That Corey tool looked like a complete poser, but wait, wasn't this "event" in Los Angeles? Well then, he fit right in with the rest of the circus.
It was a fitting end to a crazed life. Hopefully, this will signal the end of the coverage.

Can Mariah ever sing a song without holding her hand up in the air and moving it up and down to match the notes she is singing? Totally annoying. And here's a clue........nobody likes to hear you do a vocal run on every line.....up and down, up and down. Get yourself!

If you did as many drugs as corey feldmen did in the 80's you would dress like MJ too.

I don't do funerals either- won't even go to my own, and hope my friends sprinkle my ashes in the ocean and have a beer. Just a bunch of BS- once you're dead, you're dead.

wow you're so off about "will you be there". hudson's gospelized version didn't work, and while i know she's going through a lot (baby and so many family deaths), she did not sing to her potential. and the so-called "hokey" spoken word at the end: that's one of my favorite moments ever when I think of MJ. it's one of his realest moments on record and it showed a range of emotions that the public never saw so I absolutely loved that they played that in the end instead of letting hudson say it.

So only the "popular" people should have gone to the funeral? That is kind of shallow.
Posted by: taylor | July 09, 2009 at 10:56 AM
Mariah's dress was completely inappropriate. I don't know if she's just trash or just doesn't know any better.
I also fully expect Corey Feldman and probably Haim too, to come out with a tell all about how they were molested by MJ, whether it's true or not.

Corey Feldman should been on the TOP 5 Bounces!!!!!!

I couldn't agree more with you Steve. Brooke was serious and genuine as were your other mentions. I can't tell you how much it bothered me the whole Usher thing and the whole family getting up to hug him at the end. No one got up for Brooke who seemed to be a real friend and had known him for years. Usher is only popular for the last 10 or so years. Who is he compared to MJ? Corey Feldman is definitely looking for something to get him in the news I guess. His 2 Corey's reality show didn't do so well. The memorial should have been a celebration of his life, his talent, his music not a show off for some to get a quote or PR mention in the paper.

Ever see Diana Ross and Michael Jackson in the same room at the same time? I'm just sayin'...

Where was Sir Paul McCartney and Chris Tucker? Mariah's dress was a disgrace. No class. She should take a lesson from Queen Latifah.

Michael Jackson "took a special interest" in Shaheen. His own words. Very creepy.

Mariah should of song "One Sweet Day".

Who is Corey Feldman?

I wonder if Living Colour will now write a song about MJ being dead like they did for Elvis?

Shaheen, the kid who apparently made Cowell cry on the british talent show is a really prodigious young singer.

When was the last time anyone even saw Diana Ross?

I am just glad it's over, yes it is sad that Mikey died, but enough is enough!

I think Oprah should have been there too.
