'80s overload? Never! REO Speedwagon, Styx, Night Ranger coming to Tampa
REO Speedwagon, Styx and Night Ranger have just announced a show at Tampa's Ford Amphitheatre for Oct. 30. And yes, late October is a beautiful time of year for an outdoor show like that.
Tickets for the Can't Stop Rockin' 2009 tour go on sale this weekend and are priced at $59.50, $39.50, $29.50 and $19.50. There is also a reserved seat 4-pack available for $60. This is being billed as a pavilion-only show, so I'm making an educated guess that this means no lawn seats are available?
And in case you're wonder, this will mark the second or third trip through Tampa Bay for both REO Speedwagon and Night Ranger in the last 18 months or so. Seriously guys, just move down here. The weather's nicer here and you can be regular co-hosts on the Stuck in the '80s podcast.
"Hey, hey, it's Steve Spears, your host, and with me as always, my three best friends ... Kevin Cronin, Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades. ... Sean Daly is manning the control board. We'll hear from him later on. Maybe."

Just saw STYX at City Stages in Birmingham, AL and they were incredible. Gone were the silly broadway tunes of Dennis DeYoung. Just a full set of all of the best rocking STYX tunes. If you are a fan of their good early stuff, go see the show.

In a recent Classic Rock Magazine poll, Sammy Hagar was 8th place as the best singer in Rock. Number one was Freddy, two was Paul Rodgers, Steve Perry was 4th.

I think it's great how 2 of the greatest early 80's bands, Styx and REO, like going on tours together.

neil that would be easy. all three of those bands are beloved. derek, you can bet shaw and blades will do something together. i saw a styx/boston show in houston last year. i just knew tommy would make an appearence during night ranger's set. sure enough, about two thirds in their set, here comes mr. shaw. he did high enough and coming of age with night ranger, it was SWEET.

It would be great if Shaw and Blades did some Damn Yankee stuff too. Their voices go so good together, and Kevin can join in too. I would love to see this show.

Jack Blades is a hoot, he'd be a great cohost, seriously, instead of the interview, you should have him on to be a cohost, maybe a show about "rockinest songs of the 80s" or something ... Not ballads or great songs or anything like that, the stuff that makes you wanna play air guitar!
Let's see, ROCKINEST SONGS OF THE 80S LIST TIME:
-- Still Rock in America, Night Ranger
-- Three Lock Box, Sammy Hagar
-- Rock Me Like a Hurricane, Scorpion
-- I Wanna Rock, Twisted Sister
-- Here I go Again, Whitesnake
-- Smokin' in the Boys Room, Motley Crue
-- Pyromania, Def Leppard
There's more. Discuss with Mr. Jack Blades.

No need to worry about a late-season hurricane--it will be no match for the overblown forces of the voices on that stage!
