Everything we need to know, we can learn from a Sylvester Stallone movie
He doesn't look like the same lovable loser from the first couple Rocky movies anymore, but give Sylvester Stallone a break. He turns 63 years old today. That's nearly the same age Burgess Meredith was when played the manager to the Italian Stallion. Yeesh.
Say what you like about some of the stinkers in Stallone's career -- and, well yeah, he had a couple: Rhinestone, Cobra ... and we dare not mention Oscar and Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot. (Hope they paid well, at least.)
These days, Stallone is keeping a lower profile but he's still hard at work in front of the camera. Look for him in 2010 in The Expendables and The Zookeeper. And yes, a Rambo V is reportedly in the works for 2011. (What's the possible plot line? John Rambo running the local VFW?)
But the point here is deep, deep down inside nearly every Stallone flick, there's a nugget of wisdom that can be mined and used when life's got you down. So fire up your DVD player and get ready to learn, because this list is Sly's birthday gift to the rest of us.
TOP 5 LINES OF WISDOM FROM STALLONE FLICKS:
5. "There are no friendly civilians!" (First Blood)
4. "Your body has to be here, but your mind can be anywhere." (Lock Up)
3. "Boy, sometimes charity really hurts!" (Rocky III)
2. "Rambo's a p---y." (Tango & Cash)
1. "Going in one more round when you don't think you can - that's what makes all the difference in your life." (Rocky IV)

I would have DTA ("Don't Trust Anyone") from Lock Up.

I've got a few:
First Blood: 'Don't push it or I'll give you a war you won't believe.'
Rocky III: 'I'm afraid! For the first time in my life, I'm afraid!'
Rocky III: 'Go for it.'
Not exactly words of wisdom, but cool quotes.

You forgot "Gluorrghh" (at least once in every movie he's ever done)

I interviewed Sandra Bullock for "Thing Called Love" and she kept talking about Stallone being naked in "Demolition Man." She could not stop blushing!

I don't own one Stallone movie. The only reason I saw Tango & Cash when it came out was for Kurt Russell.
He does play the evil game dude in SPY KIDS 3-D. He has a vendetta with Ricardo Montalban.

I'm with CHAD. I really enjoyed Oscar. Stallone's OK, but Marisa Tomei, Tim Curry, et al make for an enjoyable movie.

The "3 shells" mystery is actually from Demolition Man, which oddly enough I love.
Be well, John Spartan.
Quotes fixed. Thanks for the heads-up gang. Never do cut-and-paste after midnight. One of the forgotten rules from Gremlins.

First Blood is his best movie in my opinion.

Re: John Hays
Err...I guess the mystery of how to use the 3 shells [Copland] didn't make the list.

The last Rocky was a great movie. My mom passed in 2006, and I really identified with that film, with my own father and I.
Stallone was also very good in Copland.

So I guess you are saying that Sylvester is so deep that the top five lines of wisdom from his movies actual has only four (since #4 and #2 are the same)? Just busting your chops Spearsy!

sue me, but i love oscar. sly isn't really the star, it's all the supporting actors that steal the movie. sly is there to just guide you along. it's a funny movie.
