Our favorite '80s cover band prepares Cuban invasion

Rubixcubed If '80s music doesn't finally drag Cuba into democracy and the 21st century, nothing will.

That's why Rubix Cubed, the '80s cover band based in Tampa, is headed to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base next week. Well, that and they're the final musical guest booked the entertain the troops by Stuck in the '80s guest host "Jeff in Cuba," who is finally leaving the Navy and heading for greener pastures in Germany in a few weeks. (Click here to listen to our Red Scare podcast, featuring Jeff.)

Read the full story about Rubix Cubed's trip here. We expect reviews and news when you get home.

If Gitmo isn't in your travel plans, head to Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa on July 24. Rubix Cubed performs a benefit show for Faces of Courage at 7 p.m. Admission is a $10 donation.

Never actually heard of them.

I think you guys are awesome! Those of us who work with Faces of Courage appreciate what the group is doing for us in a few weeks at Skippers! It means a lot to a lot of people!

Thank you

Jeff in Cuba

I would be a ginormous tool if I didn't thank everyone involved in making this happen. It means a lot to me to share this milestone with a little piece of the 80's Nation.

And speaking of being a tool, I should probably apologize for being such a lurker the past few months. It's been a crazy couple of months. But I'm going to take some of that retiree free-time and dive back into blogdom in the coming weeks. So be forewarned; JiC is back in the hizouse!

Crockett

I know, right?

Spears and crew bailed on the trip.
give him a hard time about it!
He LOVES that!

We are trying to get them (and the rest of the Stuck in the '80s nation) out to the Skippers Smokehouse (Tampa) show when we return, July 24.

Should be like, totally awesome!

Check out Channel 10 tonight at 11!
More Cuba press coverage.

The Red Dawn Tour T-shirts are also available online....

I'll email and try and post religiously as we play music 300 yards from 4000 Cubans trained to kill us.

Spears

Nope, I'd love to go and I was invited. But sadly I can't make it. I know they'll all have a great time down there.

Spearsy,

Are you and Sean hopping the plane to this party too? You should, you should, you really should.

 Local 80s Music Fan

This is so cool! What a party it will be.

JEFF,

Best of luck to you and your family. I hope you will continue to contribute to this blog when you get settled. You are one funny, rockin dude.
