Still pining over Jessie's Girl: Rick Springfield to play Seminole Hard Rock on Dec. 30
Rick Springfield is coming to Tampa on Dec. 30 to play the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. And I can say this securely and confidently:
If you're never seen "Dr. Noah Drake" live, do ... not ... miss ... this ... concert.
Sorry for the annoying punctuation, but I've seen Rick twice -- and hung out backstage with him both times (not to brag, but hey, yeah I'll brag. It was fun!). Both were excellent shows full of ever hit you can remember -- and some you shouldn't have forgotten. And if he's still doing the shtick where he comes out into the audience to play a couple tunes, then just cross your fingers that he'll launch into Jessie's Girl right in front of you.
Of course, Rick had a new album out in 2008 -- Venus in Overdrive -- so no telling if he'll throw in some current stuff with the old standards. Doesn't matter. The new album's good stuff.
Tickets for concert go on sale Friday, Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. through the Hard Rock Shop and Ticketmaster. Prices are $40 for general admission and $55 for reserved seating.
By the way, the Rick Springfield Cruise departs tomorrow (Nov. 12). Sadly, I won't be onboard. Somehow, I doubt the Rickster needs a wingman anyway.

I saw this on his MySpace page a while back and have been counting down the days ever since. (All I want for Christmas is to see Rick Springfield in concert!) I'm glad to hear that he puts on a good show. Can't wait!

Did anyone see the Oprah when Rick came on and invited 2 women on his cruise. The 2 women just had their 25 year reunion and Oprah knew they used to love him back in the 80s and he came on and sang to them. It was really sweet.

Besides, if it is a great song and show, no one would leave to go to the beer line. They would though if it is the same show they have seen 2 times already.
Tesla, when I saw them in June, played at least 5 songs from their Forever More CD. They also played a long time and it was such a great show no one left to get beer, even though the bar was only 20 feet from the stage (it was a club show).
Watch Rick on TV on the 29th. I hope he mixes in some newer stuff too.

I'm having a day like a yo-yo. Started out like a go-go. Then a little no-no. Now I'm all low-mo.

i agree derek. you hear all these artists, say well what song should we drop to make room for a newer one. i say, just add it, play longer, you're getting paid enough. as for everyone going to the beer line or restroom during the newer stuff, i say eff them, you got their money already, don't worry about it. but it's very easy, instead of playing 2 hours, play 2hrs and 20 minutes and do some new stuff. all the old stuff was new at one time, they actually had to go out and promote it by playing it. it's not brain surgery.

Blame the Eagles? I saw them in June and they played several songs off of Road out of Eden. They did it by playing over 3 hours. More bands should try playing a bit longer and throwing in their new stuff. Yes, play the hits everyone wants you too, but mix in the newer stuff in when they don't expect it so there will be no time to go to the can. the Eagles also had a break in the middle.

rick is one of those artists that make great albums, but it's live that they really come to life. as a hetreo, i can honestly say i love rick. i know i'm in the minority as a guy, but there's just something about his music, and yes, venus in overdrive, is pure brilliance. i've seen him four times, and he's never disappointed. given the greatness of his last cd, let's hope he does a few from it. why do people go see a musical act, and complain about hearing new music? when did music become all about nostalgia? i blame it all on the eagles, yep, that's who i'm blaming.
