Heatcheck: Week 8

World_cup_temperatureWeek 8 of Heatcheck Wednesday, a permanent feature here at Ballpark Frankness. The idea behind this post is to track the past week's Rays home games and wonder how tolerable they would have been, had they been played outdoors.

Four home games since last Wednesday. We had nice temperature days for Friday, Sunday and Tuesday's games. We rated Saturday "Hot, but nothing a cold beverage couldn't cure."

However, we got our first serious rain on Friday. We had pretty heavy downpours from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a light rain that lasted until about 8 p.m. The game would have been played, even if there was no sail at a downtown ballpark, but not without a likely delay. So we'll add two new categories to our contest: Rain delay, and rain out. Friday ranked a "rain delay"

So after 38 homes games, 47 percent of the home schedule, here are our up-to-date standings:

How you feeling? Hot. Hot. Hot. ---- 1

Hot, but nothing a cold beverage couldn't cure. ---- 4

Take me out the ball game. ---- 33

Rain delay ---- 1

Rain out ----

Comments

Aaron - I'm not sure that "rain delay" is a proper category, since the purpose of the sail is to protect from rain. Have the Rays indicated that there could there be instances (i.e. a heavy thunderstorm) that there could still be rain delays at the new park, even with the sail up (the sail doesn't completely cover the seats, I believe?)

Rays Mike,
I understand your point. The idea, however, is to show many times it rained during the season to get a sense of how many times a year rain really will be a factor. Though a sail may prevent rain delays, practically speaking it's a concern for many people.

Aaron, I get that people are concerned about Rain, but using the label "rain delay" seems to imply a lot more than what you actually observe.

If games would actually be delayed, postponed or called, that is information that is relevant to the community's considerations about the advisability of building this stadium. If, on the other hand, there is rain that would be present but would not impact play on the field, that is relevant but different information. It's just a thought. I want to thank you and the Times once again for this terrific blog and your great ongoing coverage of these issues.

Pay no attention to Colorado Snowbird, he knows not what he says.

Bottom line, these paired redevelopment proposals will cause it to never rain again during a Rays game.

Obviously, the 2:56 pm poster is another impostor. Rick K does not make claims like that. Who, exactly does the poster think he is fooling?

Colorado Snowbird I do not need you defending my superior debate skills. You are the imposter, sir.

I don't need help from you, Demetrios, Observer or anyone else to prove that these paired redevelopment proposals will be best for the citizens.

3:01 is yet another impostor. He is so fearful of Rick K that he feels the need to undermine his credibility by impersonating him and offering obviously faked posts. It just so happens that a number of us are aware of Rick K's precise whereabouts. But anyone can read these fifth-grade quality impersonations and discern that they are not from the real Rick K. Which begs the question, why must you employ deception? Are you afraid that the facts are not on your side?

The 3:14 is also an imposter, posing as an imposter.

It's too bad that Rick K character started attacking people under multiple assumed names or we wouldn't have this problem.

But in the end, these paired redevelopment proposals is all that matters. They will be approved regardless and I will laugh at all the ANTI's when that day comes.

Sybil, take your meds. This is getting ridiculous.

I have relieved Colorado Snowbird, as I watch the Rays game (Shields retired the side in the top of the first). I must say that this gross amount of attempted deception is sickening, even as it signals desperation on the part of the ANTI's.

Please.

"I must say that this gross amount of attempted deception is sickening, even as it signals desperation on the part of the ANTI's." You sir are one sick individual.

Yes, Don.

Keep telling yourself that.

Between drinking the ANTI KoolAid, just keep telling your self that I am sick.

{Pssst. You aren't really wearing new clothes, your naked!}
