Heatcheck: Week 6

World_cup_temperatureWeek 6 of Heatcheck Wednesday, a permanent feature here at Ballpark Frankness. The idea behind this post is to track the past week's Rays home games and wonder how tolerable they would have been, had they been played outdoors.

Five home games since last Wednesday.  We rated Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday's games "Take me out to the ball game," Friday came in at "Hot, but nothing a cold beverage couldn't cure," and Sunday marks our first "How you feeling? Hot. Hot. Hot." rating.

This was the most difficult week yet. On Sunday, for instance, it was pretty hot. But if the Rays build a new stadium, people won't be sitting in the sun -- which makes a difference. On the otherhand, it's starting to get pretty sticky out at night.

So after 34 homes games, 42 percent of the home schedule, here are our up-to-date standings:

How you feeling? Hot. Hot. Hot. ---- 1

Hot, but nothing a cold beverage couldn't cure. ---- 3

Take me out the ball game. ---- 30

Man, sure is a scorcher out there today!!!! Only going to get hotter and more humid too!! Sure glad we have an air-conditioned place to watch MLB!!!

Aaron, are you taking into account the fact that the Al Lang site, like the rest of the waterfront, frequently has an ocean breeze creating a cooling effect?

Ray F

I think people should realize that the majority of seats will be covered by a shadow for 90% of game time. With the exception of the handful of day games that have the sun up the whole time, i think it'll be nice the whole game with the roof open. Otherwise close the roof and play in shade.

Don't like it hot, stay home and watch the game. Don't mind it hot, come to the park and watch the game. It is Florida afterall.

Will Ferrell

Just stand under the cowbell for shade.

Tommy Lee

I am playing that cowbell so hard it is hot man. I drop cowbell like it is hot. Ever hear me on "Too fast for Love". That is true, pure, hot cowbell.
