Dem's edge in Pinellas grows
Back on May 3, the Times reported that registered Democrats in Pinellas County surpassed Republicans for the first time in 20 years. The day before, Democrats had established a 59-voter advantage. Well, the gap has continued to grow in the last two months. As of today, there are 233,611 registered Republicans in Pinellas and 235,591 registered Democrats, a margin of 1,980.
Of course, whether this means anything when it comes to election results is up for debate.
-- Will Van Sant, Times staff writer

Pinellas Democrats believe in the RESPONSIBLE use of tax dollars to benefit ALL tax payers, not just a chosen few who lead their party.
Pinellas Democrats believe in fairness and equity for ALL PEOPLE, not just the chosen few who lead their party.
Pinellas Democrats believe in hard work and ethics.
Pinellas Democrats believe in working FOR THE PEOPLE, not their executive party's top donors.
Pinellas Democrats will study issues and make decisions based on common sense and the good of the entier community, not just themselves or their campaign contributors.
Pinellas Democrats work to uphold the Constitution of the State of Florida and the United States of America, they don't degrade individual rights as they envoke Jesus' name!
Pinellas Democrats are reasonable, level-headed people who believe in community, equality and liberty.
No wonder so many are flocking to the Democratic party in Pinellas.
Enough already with the self-serving zealots who use tax dollars to bank roll their private corporations and bail out their incompetent investment bankers! Goodbye, Good Ol Party boys!
A new day is dawning.

and yawning-lets see who comes out to vote.
How many Pinellas Republicans won re-election unoppossed?
Kool aid is great in the summer but not in November.

"unoppossed" is not a win, dink... it's an "apathetic appointment" at best.

You have a lot of "conservative/Reagan Democrats" who have moved into Pinellas from the industrial midwest, which means the county is still center-right regardless of party affiliation. That is why the Republican Party continues to dominate the county.

Dude... people are moving out of Pinellas in droves. Lay off the crack, you pinhead. Center-right in indeed correct... but even center-right will prefer new direction and leadership, over status-quo corruption.
And Pinellas is loooooooaded with status-quo corruption.

The best comparison is registration today vs 2006 election day. In round
numbers, there are 4,000 more Dems,
3,000 fewer Reps, and 25,000 more independents. It is obviously better to have a net gain of 7,000 voters.
However, the big gain is a movement towards independents. Democrats have been about 10% ahead of R's in recent
polls among independents.

The Republicans in Pinellas County have consistently won Independents and centrist-Dems.

Unoppossed is a big win! The Dem's were going to contest every seat-oh well the unoppossed will take office without spending any time or money, so if that's not winning what is!

Democrats ARE centrists.
It's not at all radical to believe in equality, kindness and individual liberty.
It is radical however to believe that our Constitution could be eroded in eight short years.
Democrats are conservatives.
We've been pushing for environmental conservation for a long time. Now that the Republicans have figured out they can profit from being green, they're out in force. No bother. The movement is gaining momentum. We just have to keep Republicans from exploiting the environment in new ways.
Democrats are just plain and simple people who want to do right by their fellow man and their planet.
We realize that's a radical idea to close-minded, self-serving, bigoted capitalists. No bother.
We Democrats will keep doing right anyway.
