Progress Energy's $17b nuke project approved
Progress Energy won approval Tuesday morning for its $17-billion nuclear project, paving the way to start charging customers for the plant as early as January. The St. Petersburg utility said in March that residential customers could see an increase of $9 a month, but it's unclear if that number has changed because Progress Energy has redacted it from recent filings before state regulators. We are missing the opportunity to fund renewables and efficiency programs by heading down this path.
Even if nukes were all OK, is it really right to charge users ahead of time? I don't think so. That is just not right.
