Hackworth promises no Young-like tenure
Bob Hackworth, the mayor of Dunedin who is challenging 38-year incumbent U.S. Rep. Bill Young, has pledged to serve no more than four terms in Congress if elected.
Hackworth's statement is a continuation of the theme of his campaign, which argues that change requires a citizen-legislator rather than a longtime incumbent.
"I do not believe that our community or nation benefits from politicians treating elected office as a lifetime appointment," Hackworth said in statement.

I think Bob is hot!

We face problems. Big problems. And it's going to take new ideas to solve these problems. 38 years makes you a career Representative, and I'm skeptical anyone in the same office that long could have any new ideas (and if he does, what's taking so long to propose them.)

Five Days till VICTORY! Go Bob Go!

Bill Young failed to speak up for our wounded warriors in the filth of Walter Reed.
What, you mean no one listened to the then-House Appropriations Committee chairman?
It's long since time Young was put out to pasture.
I voted for Bob.

Well that is an easy promise to make when you know you are going to lose by at least 10 points....and that is giving the race some credit.
What we need is proven leadership from a representative that gets the job done for the 10th district. That man is C.W. "Bill" Young.
6:32 (Susan S.?),
I would hate to have to engage in the WRAMC argument all over again. Just suffice to say that you have no idea what you are talking about and Mr. Young does more for our nation's Veterans in a week than you could do in a lifetime.

In fairness, Young did actually vote to cut veterans healthcare.
He also cast the deciding vote against giving the men and women fighting in Iraq a $1500 bonus. The measure lost by one vote.
And one can rightfully ask why he didn't take action and use his position when he saw what was happening at Walter Reed. Maybe he couldn't have done anything, but it is disappointing that he never tried.

Is anyone dumb enough to fall for such a pledge?
Posted by: | October 30, 2008 at 08:35 PM
Keller made such a pledge broke it and now he's going to lose.
Posted by: | October 30, 2008 at 10:06 PM
Young pledged to have his son inherit the seat for another forty years after he retires.
Posted by: | October 30, 2008 at 10:08 PM
you're thinking of Bilirakis
Posted by: | October 30, 2008 at 10:34 PM
No - Young wants to hold on until his son turns 25. Young can't stand Karen Seel and is afraid she'll get the seat. He is sitting on his campaign funds so he can transfer them to the RNCC so they can do independent expenditures on his behalf.
Posted by: | October 30, 2008 at 10:38 PM
10:38: You have no idea about what you are talking about. If you identified yourself you could be sued for libel. NONE of Youngs children have any desire to enter politics. You are probably right on the karen seel issue, tho. He has no intentions of transferring his campaign funds to the RNCC for any reason, if and when he retires, he has many good charities that could benefit from those funds. You are a liar and you don't know what you are talking about and you should be ashamed that you would try to sway a vote in this manner. Shame on you.

Youngs wife received an award tonite from the Veterans Liason Council for their work protecting and supporting the wounded at Walter Reed and Bethesda. I was there.
Another lie from a stressed blogger. It's Susan Smith of the HIllsborough County Democratic Committee libeling and slandering again. She has made that her profession. Get a life, lush.

Four Years Hackworth? That shows how smart you actually are. Do you know how long it takes to get any seniority and power in Washington? A little more than 4 years. So your BIG plan is to sit on your butt for the next 4 years and play politician and pretend people are listening to you and pretend that you have the power to make the smallest dent in world issues? Keep saying stupid stuff Bobby, you look brighter every day.
Yeah, Go Bob - You got my vote!!! Duh!

Campaign Manager:
I agree with AJS. Your platform on Walter Reed is getting old. It was Young that took down the creep that let this happen but we don't expect you or Gene, or Susan to give him credit or let up. It's not like any of you were there, or knew what was happening. Maybe the Army should make the decision on whether he didn't do anything, Huh? Oh, no, that's right Gene has all the answers and knows all. Gene, you know nothing and you are annoying and pathetic. But you already know that, don't you. Why don't you go run some of that anxiety off. It will help you in many ways, if you get my drift.

Michael Ryan:
The Democrats took over 2 years ago, Rembember Nancy Pelosi? the big powerful democratic leader who was going to bring the troops home as soon as she took office? She sent more. Blame the right party this time. The Democratics did absolutely nothing these last two years. They had the ability and power to stop some of the stuff Bush did, but didn't even bother. But they did have a lot of gold tournaments and seminars in beautiful places, though.

hey 10:38 Moron. You don't know what you are talking about. Two of his sons are already 25? Does that make you a liar?
Posted by: | October 31, 2008 at 12:06 AM
Hackworth: it will take you 2 years to figure out the voting booths and how to move around the capital. Get real, you loser.
Posted by: | October 31, 2008 at 12:07 AM
Young isn't AFRAID Karen Seel will get his seat when he retires. He will just help her get beat real bad.

Campaign Manager: If you were a true consultant you would identify yourself or you wouldn't have any business. You say you have consulted to many polticians? well I guess everyone on a blog "consults to politicians". You are so cute, and well, stupid.
Posted by: | October 31, 2008 at 12:12 AM
Campaign Manager:
"He cast the deciding vote". Now how do you know that. Were you in the house chambers when he came in and was the last to vote so it made him the the "deciding vote". Your a joke, man, a real joke. Do you think we are stupid? Then don't try to sell us your pathetic "consulting" propaganda crap. We aren't buying.
Posted by: | October 31, 2008 at 12:14 AM
Hackworth: Since you are obviously not the brightest bulb in the box, your statement, "I do not believe that our community or nation benefits from politicians treating elected office as a lifetime appointment," Hackworth said in statement is a little immature. I don't think "senior" elected officials view their position as lifetime appointments. Seniority definitely has its benefits. Look at everything Young has done for Pinellas and honestly say it didn't have anything to do with his seniority? Do you think you could accomplish in 4 years what Mr. Young has accomplished in 40 + years? Don't be absurd.
Posted by: | October 31, 2008 at 01:04 AM
Young was the last R vote this Dem reluctantly chose until this year when I and 5 neighbors had a mail ballot "party". Wonder how many others changed this year?

" ... pledged to serve no more than four terms in Congress if elected."
We're going to have to wait four terms to find out whether Bob Hackworth fulfills his promise. By that time, I suppose, everyone will have forgotten.
