BEWARE: THE OLD MAN (AND HIS SIDEKICK SARA FAILIN)COMMETH TO TAKE YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN AWAY TO DIE IN A WAR!!!!!
Posted by: True Blue | October 07, 2008 at 10:40 AM
McCrazy has lost his mind. Palin and her husband hate America.
This is one Republican tired of the lies. VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN!
Posted by: Obamican | October 07, 2008 at 12:12 PM
I guess True Blue thinks that tucking our tails and running will solve the whole problem?? No thanks, I would rather my son not have to re-fight this war 17 years from now. I went so he wouldn't have to later....
John McCain and Sarah Palin are right on Iraq. We stay there until the Iraqi forces can defend their country for themselves. That is when we leave with honor.
Posted by: AJS | October 07, 2008 at 12:35 PM
When are you pseudo-values types going to wake up. The value of honor is worth about the time it takes to get over it. We did with Viet Nam. Oh, and by the way, I did my time in that armpit of the world.
You nummies should understand that the nature of the conflict this country is engaged in is not something where the terms of the "war" is being dictated by this country. The terrorists dictate the terms, that is, time, place and location. This country can only react. Keep in mind regardless of how you define "victory" the end will be determined by the other side.
Finally, after the Viet Nam fiasco, the country is still here. You should be concerned with the trends in greed, dishonesty and unethical behavior that seems to part of today's political and economic ethos.
Wake up. Honor does not put one centime in your pocket.
Posted by: attentive | October 07, 2008 at 01:27 PM
I forgot to ask why it is that you are not still there ensuring victory and "our honor?" Oh, you've done your part. Okay
Posted by: attentive | October 07, 2008 at 01:37 PM
Attentive,
Your post really doesn't need a response. If you believe that HONOR is worth nothing then we really have nothing to discuss. If we fail to secure the peace in Iraq those terrorists you speak of will have more opportunity to dictate the terms, as you described them. The end of this war will be determined by this country. That determination will come when the commanders on the ground say that the Iraqi people are able to secure their own country without us. Anything less than that would disastrous. If you want to compare the Vietnam War (and it's aftermath) with that of a war against Muslim extremists, then there is no helping you.
I am absolutely concerned with the greed and mismanagement of this country. We very likely disagree with the source however. I look at Barney Frank, ACORN, and others who have tried to force some banks into making poor decisions in the name of "equality"....I also blame some banks who did so out of pure greed and mismanagement at the corporate level.
If you think a failure in Iraq will not affect your pocket book than you are more out of touch than I originally thought.
Oh and for your final question, after two years there I decided that maybe I could help in other ways. I believe in our mission there and the men and women fighting for us. That is more than I can say for you....

And "there you go again." Once again the Times "staff writers" do not get it right. You inform us that the agents rousting Gregg Pound were secret service officers. Wrong, they were members of Sheriff Coats' Intel unit. It is not reported that after the rousting, one of the Intel persons called the Sheriff, reporting that "all is clear." Oh, and there was a Clearwater Police Captain involved in the incident also. He Sid, what's going on? Is Clearwater in the unincorporated area? Of course it is convienent to refer to the rousting officers as "secret service agents" because the city of Clearwater is out of the JURISDICTION of the Sheriff. Was your captain providing cover for the Sheriff's thugs? You see Sid, it is known that your captain was involved because he conviently provided Mr. Pound with his businesss card. Can't hear you Sid.
What is worse than your sorry reporting-that continues to protect that bunch of badge wearing thugs is what might be termed conspiracy by omission--omission facts that obscures the truth.
It seems not to matter to this bunch of journalistic numbskulls that the most important fact that they conviently ignore is the violation of a citizens right to peacefully assemble which, by the way is protected by the U.S. Constitution, and FYI the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is provided for your enlightenment.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACABLY TO ASSEMBLE, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
Check it out

AJS;
Thank you for the reply. It is not often that an informed, civil, discussion takes place in this environment. Yes we can agree to disagree on many points. While it may or may not be true that Barney Frank and ACORN may have been involved in the mess you describe, I would remind you that about this time last year, our President was thumping his chest and taking credit for the rise in Black homeownership. On Iraqi failure and my pocketbook. I am retired and the Iraq war has effected my pocketbook in more ways than you can imagine so I do not have to wait until the end of this fiasco regardless of how it turns out.
Iraq concludes nothing; so the Iraqi conflict comes to a successful (however that is defined) close--but what about the front in Afghanistan and the evolving fronts in Northeast Africa? No AJS I am far from out of touch. I tend to see things on a world-wide geo-political perspective.
Anyway, it is good to exchange with you

Oh, and AJS:
My world perspective arises from a 22.5 year military career during which I have served in the the Middle East and North Africa among the exotic armpits of the world.
take care
