Pinellas DEC launches "Vote Local" effort
The Pinellas Democratic Executive Committee wants all those voters eager to cast a ballot for Obama to vote D all the way down the ticket. They've begun a multipronged approach that involves using Facebook to keep the public and what DEC chair Toni Molinaro called community "influencers" in the know about local Democrats. Check out the Web site here. From the site you can go to Vote Local Facebook sites for both Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.
Molinaro said the effort was the work of consultants Larry Biddle and Mitch Kates and is unique to Pinellas and the Tampa Bay area rather than a statewide effort. All of the $33,000 collected at the DEC's recent Jefferson-Jackson dinner, plus $20,000 from the state party and another $16,000 in local contributions, is going to the Vote Local campaign, she said.
"We are branding the name 'Vote Local.' " Molinaro said. "We want people to understand that issues that are important to them are best addressed by local leaders, not national politicians."

The Vote Local program is great and the GOP is very worried that all of the Obama supporters will vote down ballot and tip the close races to the Democratic candidates.

There are thousands and thousands of voters on Facebook- the Republicans must be shakin' in their boots.

Forget about the Obama impact... right now, the GOP is worried about the R's sitting this one out. McCain and Palin have become desperate mudslingers, are not a very effective team, and offer neither our country nor the GOP anything to get excited about. The largest turn out they can expect are from frustrated old men who are gacked up on v-gra for the milfwannabe.
These are the same guys who have shortwave radio’s in their garage, and take potshots at raccoons in their garbage cans yelling “Die VC; Die!… honey, hit the deck; Charlie’s in the perimeter!”

uh...no... but at least we respect those who have served our country!
Hateful comments from closed minded folks like this one are part of the reason GOP voters WON'T be sitting this one out!

Long coat-tails in Pinellas? I guess there is a first time for everything.
We will see on Nov. 4TH, or NOT!

Think Global Act Local- Possibly one of the oldest phrases among us who care about the conservation of the natural world we inhabit.
The issue of recycling in St. Petersburg is an excellent example of the differences between our party's idea of responsible living and the failure of the republican mindset.
To me, acting locally includes voting locally. If the people of Pinellas County vote D all the way down perhaps this issue can be settled.

Scared? Maybe. Extremely concerned is how I would characterize Pinellas County Republicans. This is evididenced by a report (confirmed) that the incumbent sheriff of Pinellas County is posting yard signs in yards around predominately Black South St. Petersburg. His minions have been ordered to place red tape over the "R" on the signs. What is this all about?
Hey Abel, where are you and the Times reporting staff?

Ed Helm came up with the idea and used it in the elections two years ago.
