Rep. C.W. Bill Young's son: I'm happy in my job
With U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young re-elected to a 20th term in Congress, his son Billy Young would be old enough to run for his seat in two years.
So, is the congressman's namesake interested in succeeding his dad?
"I've always had a huge interest in politics, and I've loved the ability to shadow him and see the good that he does for people," said Billy Young, 24. "If you'd asked me a long time ago I probably would have told you yes." But now, he said, "I really enjoy working in the private sector."
Young, who would not rule out a run, is a community relations specialist with the Largo-based National Forensic Science Technology Center, a not-for-profit corporation that trains and provides services to local and state crime labs.
He said he thinks Americans are tired of campaigning and could take a break from politics.
"When we get to the day that he announces he’s retiring, then we’ll get to this question again," Billy said.
But he said he's happy to have his dad as the congressman for the 10th District and is looking forward to voting for him again in 2010.

But I thought the idea that Bill Young's son might try to succeed him was a scurrilous lie? At least that's what Young's supporters were saying a week ago...

the people that say he will not run may be ones who are hoping that he does not

how can a twenty something be a specialist at anything
Posted by: | November 10, 2008 at 10:42 PM
Hey… you morons fell for it with Gussy Boy! Who say’s American isn’t autocratic…

10:42: It is very easy for a "20"something to be a specialist at many things. My thoracic surgeon that just operated on me was 28 and she was wonderful. My son is a lawyer and is 26 and I pretty much think he is a specialist in his field. It's called "college educated". they are out with a bachelors at 22 and Masters thereafter. Quite simple math. Brain surgeons graduate at 28 - do you need more?

Exactly which Young supporters where saying it was a scurrilous lie, Gene. Can you name those individuals. That is not what was said at all, Gene Smith. Take a political break, you are on overburn because Young won. You can't change that now and as hard as your tried, you didn't change it during the elections. And IF any of his sons, two are old enough decide to run, Gene, it is none of your business. Don't you have your own business to take care of instead of always trying to handle MR. Youngs business and family. I am sure they are all doing just fine with and without our smart as# and hateful comments. You're boring and sad Gene. I am sorry for you.

Keep pushing Democrats. Force him into running to prove you wrong. IF you leave the young man alone and listen to what he says you might not stir a rucus. But the times likes that, don't they. Keep it stirred because you can't get honest journalism going so you go for attacks.

MY dentist is 26. I hope he is a "specialist". Cops are even younger and they are specialists. 10:42 is a specialist at being an uninformed and ill informed idiot. How old do you have to actually have to be to be a specialist? You have just insulted every college graduate in America and abroad. They graduate at 22 and have a specialty field but you may not understand that. Accepted.

Billy: I don't know you but I think you should run just to make Gene and Susan Smiths life miserable for the next two years. I will be happy to make a substantial contribution to start a campaign for you. Just say the word.

I think Young would have retired last time if it was not for the constant harrassment from the Times. And then when the Times started attacking his family I think he made his decision not to let the the media take horrible cheap shots at his kids like that and expect him to walk away. I personally thank the Times for their insensitive and cutthroat attempts to run him out, because he is here, and as of Today I need his help desperately with a VA issue and I know he will at least try. More than the VA has tried. (NOT)

Pinellas needs another Young that understands what is needed and what is needed to be done. I personally worried that Young would retire last year, then what would happen to this county. Who would keep our barrier islands from being submerged by the ocean? A new guy with no clout? I doubt that. Young has been a FAVOR to this community and we all know it. If his kid wants to follow in his dads footsteps. Good for him. Good for us. Those are good steps to follow.

harassment from the Times. hardly. the Times even chews Bill Young's food for him first.
Posted by: | November 11, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Pinellas needs another Young like they need another Billirakis, like they need another Bush, like they need another baseball stadium, like they need another freaking hurricane!
Good Lord, you pinheads would vote for Osama Been Forgotten as County Sheriff so long as he had an R next to his name… what the hell must it be like to have no independent thought whatsoever…
Posted by: | November 11, 2008 at 01:53 PM
the people, yes the people, voted in another Billirakis whether you approved or not. And the pinheads voted in Obama, not sit back and watch this mess unfold.
Posted by: | November 11, 2008 at 07:07 PM
to the idiot who posted at 1:53:
We just finished an election so the people that voted OBVIOUSLY had an independent thought - it's called voter registration. And they voted for your man, Obama. Now enjoy the ride your man is going to give you.

Bill Young wouldn't stoop low enough to let the Times chew anything for him. They have chewed on him for years and he had never done anything but be co-operative with them. And that is because he has an R next to his name. How sad for discrimination.

Young ought to chew up the Times blog then throw them up. Now that's a visual.

The elections are over and the executives at the St. Petersburg Times need to sit back and absorb all the anger, slander and animosities that were used during this campaign time. There has to be one executive that has a wife or children, but more important, a soul. The things that have been said that caused emotional wounds that will never heal really weren't worth it, were they? God made us all equal, no one better and allowing innocent people to be humiliated in your columns was so unkind and inhuman. Was it worth it? Was it necessary? Maybe the Times blogs will change their style, start anew, be kinder and gentler. Maybe not.

It is a shame that 24 year old Billy Young is more mature than most of the folks on this Blog.
Posted by: | November 11, 2008 at 08:34 PM
I think 8:22 was not only mature, but factual.
These blogs are vicious and many times untrue. They are here, intently, to cause unnecessary embarrassment and humiliation to sometimes innocent people. Lives can be damaged or permanently ruined by some of the horrible things said on blogs, and once the damage is done, there is no "I'm sorry or I didn't mean it" that could undue the damage done. A credible newspaper or journalist wouldn't tolerate slander and libel let alone damage to a human soul for no reason. If you do something to deserve punishment, that is one thing, being crucified because of party affiliation is another. We were not put on this earth to cause pain and suffering intentionally, we were put on this earth "to love thy neighbor as thyself". I'm sure the instigators of the hateful, libelous and slanderous posts would not appreciate or welcome what they did to others, to be done to themselves.

Billy Young is a mature, 20 something intelligent, educated young man who chose public relations and communications as his major, or "specialty". The cheap shot of "specialists" was uncalled for. He is a college graduate who worked hard for his degree and deserves respect.

I am not a Republican but if this young man has half of his dads
Compassion and interest in his constituents and veterans I would vote for him.

Speaking from a constituent and Veteran's point of view Paul, I can assure you that is definitely the case.

The people of the 10th District of Florida are very fortunate to have Congressman Bill Young as their Representative. If Billy Young follows his dad, he will also be a terrific Congressman.
